**This position is required to work the morning shift starting around 7:00AM (PST).**

KPBS serves the greater San Diego community with informative, cultural, entertaining and educational television, radio, and web programming. KPBS TV/FM is the public television and radio station for San Diego. Licensed to San Diego State University, KPBS supports and furthers the university’s educational and community service mission by informing, enlightening and empowering its audience. It does so not only by presenting national and locally produced programming of value to its San Diego audience, but also by producing programming about San Diego and its people for distribution nationwide.

Under the supervision of the Senior Producer for Audio News, the Supervising Audio Producer leads KPBS's morning, midday and afternoon newscast team, and collaborates with the Midday Edition team, the San Diego News Now podcast team and other units in the newsroom and at KPBS. Responsibilities include bringing creative ideas and fresh approaches to newscasts, leveraging the immediacy of broadcast news all while emphasizing writing for the ear through a conversational and welcoming delivery.

This position will work the morning shift and supervise the Morning Edition and All Things Considered anchors and two student assistants, and works closely with other News department managers, producers, editors, anchors, hosts, production and engineering staff to plan, create, critique, innovate and improve newscasts. This position is also expected to help foster an inclusive, equitable and welcoming environment within the organization.

- The Supervising Audio Producer is responsible for but not limited to:_

**Management 45%**
- Daily planning, production and execution of KPBS's radio newscasts on terrestrial signals, KPBS.org and other on-demand platforms, while following the editorial agenda of KPBS News.
- Oversee scheduling, provide on-going feedback and facilitate performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Edit and review daily audio news and features with an eye towards audio quality; report issues and changes made to Sr. Producer for Audio News.
- Responsible for longer term planning to better serve and build the audience.
- Participate in news specials as pitched or assigned (i.e., elections, civic engagement).
- Communicate daily rundown and production schedules with production and news staff.

**Editorial 35%**
- Stack Morning Edition newscasts.
- Responsible for helping the station get breaking news on radio and other audio platforms.
- Book and assist with live or taped reporter two-ways that will air on Morning Edition and All Things Considered.
- Identify content from outside partners (CPRN, TCR, CA Hub, inewsource, 10News, NPR), Midday Edition, Evening Edition and San Diego News Now that’s relevant to the Morning Edition and All Things Considered audiences.
- Direct student assistants in repurposing content for Morning Edition and All Things Considered.

**Producing 10%**
- Research, write, edit and produce newscast content when necessary.
- Fill in as a producer on Midday Edition, Roundtable and San Diego News Now when other backups are not available.
- Responsible for following sound journalism and ethics practices, and for ensuring that all releases and clearances are obtained.
