**Position Summary**

The **Human Resources Generalist** is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and carries out the responsibilities in the following areas: onboarding/exit processing, background and reference checks, benefits and open enrollment support, verification of employment, unemployment claims, preparing ad-hoc HR reports, coordinating, and scheduling new hire orientation, and ensure integrity within human resources systems, and communicating the institution’s policies and procedures. Provide overall HR administrative support as needed.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- HR Office Administration_
- Provide clerical support in the HR department to include copying, faxing, filing, and maintaining personnel records: electronic and paper.
- Assist with establishing and maintaining personnel files: faculty, staff, and students.
- Coordinate, track and audit employee modular training.
- Greet walk-ins to the HR office.
- Be available to attend appropriate HR related meetings across campus.
- Pick up, route, and distribute HR postal mail appropriately.
- Support the HR team with website management and campus wide updates, including distribution of bi-weekly newsletters.
- Maintain beautification of the HR front office and order office supplies as needed.
- Work closely with information technology on HR technology issues.
- Recruitment Administration:_
- Primary contact for HRIS/ATS and Background Check Tools.
- Work on special administrative and HR related projects assigned, including posting jobs, scheduling meetings/appointments, coordinating interviews, conducting background and reference checks when needed.
- Schedule New Employee Orientation
- Process employee status change forms as needed.
- Onboarding Administration:_
- Process employee status change forms as needed.
- Assist with completion of new hire docs.
- Maintain and audit Form I-9 completion, filing and storage, adhering to California and Federal compliance laws.
- Benefits Administration_
- Notify employees to update demographic information every year.
- Process all employment verifications requests in a timely manner; verbal and written.
- Respond to all unemployment claims and complete them within the required timeline.
- Verify and catalog I-9 documents for new hires and perform annual audits.
- Support employees with completing employee paperwork and benefit forms when needed.

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree or at least 5 plus years’ experience working as a HR Generalist or Coordinator.
- 2 plus years of administrative support experience.
- Possess a clear understanding and personal commitment to Saint Mary’s core principles: Lasallian, Catholic and Liberal Arts Traditions.
- Must have experience with Enterprise ERP and HRIS/ATS Systems. Comfortable with using new technology.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Have good attention to detail, and excellent organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to work independently and with others, and to be proactive.
- Be customer friendly and hospitable as the face of the department.
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Experience working in higher education.
- Benefits Certification, CPP, CEBS, etc.
- SHRP-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR a plus.
