**POSITION TITLE**: Summer Camp Activity Counselor
**HIRING MANAGER**: MSgt Lionel Saulsberry
**DEPARTMENT**: Cadet Life
**REPORTS TO**: Program Coordinator
**DATE RANGE**: 7/5/23 7/22/23
**STATUS**:Seasonal/Full-Time Positions/Hourly

**Responsibilities/Duties**:

- Actively participate in staff orientation, training, and scheduled daily review meetings
- Demonstrate character qualities such as caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
- Prepare campus facilities for camper arrival and departure
- Assist with the planning, facilitation, and supervision of specific activities based on qualifications, experience, and skills
- Oversee, and facilitate scheduled morning, afternoon, and evening activities
- Remain vigilant of campers, taking the initiative to engage and positively redirect misbehaving campers
- Correct and document situations that endanger campers’ emotional or physical safety
- Assist with camper arrival days and additional camp-related activities
- Maintain positive relations with parents and the general public
- Mediate conflicts between campers and report any crucial concerns to senior staff
- Promptly notify an administrator or senior staff when there is reason to believe a camper is at risk or in danger due to such issues as program failure, bullying, sexual harassment/misconduct, depression, or suicide ideation
- Follow and enforce personnel guidelines as outlined in summer Personnel Policies
- Perform other duties as assigned

**Desired Qualifications**:

- Current CPR & First Aid certification
- Previous work with summer camps or interaction with large groups of children

**Required Qualifications**:

- Minimum 18 years of age
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Professional demeanor, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to work well with children, the public, and staff
- Consistent demonstration of dependability, responsibility, honesty, integrity, adaptability, and willingness to act as a role model to campers and staff
- Ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergencies
- Successfully pass a background check and drug screening as a condition of employment

**Special Considerations**:
Summer Camp Counselors may reside in Academy housing for the contracted work period
