**Required Education **and Experience**:

**Physical Requirements**:

- This is a physically demanding position that requires moving heavy cryogenic tanks, compressed gas cylinders, and lead bricks.
- Prolonged periods of standing and frequent movements between laboratory rooms are often required during experiments.

**Preferred Education **and Experience**:

- B.A/B.S. in Chemistry with demonstrated coursework in nuclear chemistry or nuclear physics
- Two years or more of combined experience working in analytical chemistry laboratories
- A driver’s license is required for travel to and from the TEES Nuclear Science and Engineering Center to perform regular work.

**Responsibilities**:

- **Performance of Elemental Analysis in Support of Customer Projects**:Plans analyses and discusses measurement challenges in close consultation with the Laboratory Manager. Receives customer samples and schedules measurements in the elemental analysis project queue. Prepare s experimental samples, calibrators, and QC materials for analysis. Perform s elemental analyses on customer samples, using the appropriate techniques and instruments. Reviews analysis data and results. Prepares analysis reports for approval by the Laboratory Manager. Disposes of used samples and/or package used samples for return shipment to customers.
- **Maintenance of Analytical Instrumentation**:Monitors instrument performance data to identify potential problems. Diagnoses and repair malfunctioning instrumentation Keeps detailed records of maintenance activities. Notifies the Laboratory Manager regarding actual or potential instrument problems in a timely manner. Assists Laboratory Manager with troubleshooting and repair of instrumentation.
- **Documenting Laboratory Procedures and Experimental Activities**:Develops and maintains standard operating procedures for routine laboratory work. Develops and maintains manuals for custom laboratory instrumentation. Keeps detailed records of experimental procedures.
- **Support of Method Development Research Activities**:Assists the Laboratory Manager with the design and execution of analytical method development experiments. Contributes ideas for novel measurement strategies, in line with the focus of the laboratory. Collaborates in the preparation of proposals, manuscripts, and oral presentations.
- **Support of Administrative Activities**:Maintains organized financial records related to customer projects using database software. Prepares and submits documents for project-based invoicing.
- **Controlling Inventories of Laboratory Supplies**:Monitors stocks of various laboratory consumables. Orders supplies and researches and identifies substitutes or alternatives as needed. Communicates anticipated shortages to the Laboratory Manager in a timely manner. Prepares chemical solutions and solid mixtures for use in analytical procedures. Works with the Laboratory Manager to maintain up-to-date asset inventory.
- **Practicing and Promoting Laboratory Safety and Good Housekeeping**: Maintains clean and organized workspaces. Identifies and implements safety best practices for all hazardous work. Educates and encourage sco-workers and students regarding safety expectations and requirements. Develops and documents lab-specific safety practices for new or modified re
