**Position Focus**:

- Provides props, furniture and set dressing for theatre productions. Carries out duties while exercising a high degree of autonomy and discretion, maintaining high standards for safety and craftsmanship. Handles and moves properties elements.

**Essential Duties**
- 1. Constructs complex and specialized properties, furniture, and set dressing. 2. Communicates with Scenic Designer to provide and obtain information relating to the materials and methods used to execute designs. Reads and interprets design drawings, sketches, and research. 3. Provides critical input into properties designs. 4. Uses a variety of complex and specialized tools, processes, materials, and equipment in completing projects. 5. Supervises appropriate students and staff. 6. Attends and leads appropriate meetings. 7. Ensures and participates in maintaining the safety and efficiency of all properties shop operations. 8. Identifies, prioritizes and performs maintenance and repair (M&R) of prop shop, tools and storage facilities. Coordinates M&R purchasing. Delegates and supervises and implements the execution of M&R tasks. 9. Works occasional nights, weekends and holidays. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

**Required Education and Experience**
- Eight years of related work experience, six of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school-level education; or six years of related work experience and an Associate’s degree; or four years of related work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or two years of related work experience with an M.F.A. in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Professional experience in properties construction.

**Required Skill/Ability 1**:

- Exceptional strongly demonstrated skill, with high standards in regard to production values, in multiple areas of prop construction incl. but not limited to carpentry, welding, sewing and upholstery, mold making, carving and sculpting, and prop special effects.

**Required Skill/Ability 2**:

- Strongly demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, interns, guest artists and other professionals representing a wide diversity of skill levels and experiences.

**Required Skill/Ability 3**:

- Strongly demonstrated ability to guide, advise, mentor, and lead students and staff in a professional setting. Calm and collected under pressure with strongly demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and follow schedules and instructions.

**Required Skill/Ability 4**:

- Knowledge of job-related health and safety issues and ability to identify potential hazards.

**Required Skill/Ability 5**:

- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain shop tools.

**Preferred Education, Experience and Skills**:

- Training with stage weaponry.

**Required Licenses or Certifications**
- Valid driver's license.

**Physical Requirements**
- Repeatedly lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs. Stand for long periods. Repeatedly bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, squat and crouch. Work in confined spaces and dim lighting. Climb stairs and ladders. Hold and operate hand, air and power tools. Use a respirator. Drive cargo van and departmental truck.
