The Innovative Health (IH) Organization has been created to drive meaningful impact to participant health and wellbeing by reinventing the clinical trial experience. The Innovative Health organization connects teams across development to novel capabilities and solutions, unleashing the potential of innovation to drive broader access to innovative medicines, and enriching the healthcare experience for all.
As the Head of Discovery, you will be responsible for driving the strategic direction and overall effectiveness of the organization's discovery process. This pivotal role requires a transformative leader who is ultimately accountable for improving the asset value of the innovation pipeline. You will have a deep understanding of business needs, emerging technologies, market trends, and evolving start up landscape. You will oversee the Scouting Solutions Lead and Intake Lead, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and driving innovation to address key challenges and opportunities.
The IH department reports into Global Development’s (GD) Business Growth, Innovation and Advocacy (BGIA) department and is dedicated to driving innovation into the clinical operating model to make clinical development faster and better for patients, investigators, Johnson & Johnson, and the industry at large. IH’s approach is to learn through doing: we design and conduct innovation projects that generate knowledge about novel operational models, methods and solutions. Once proven valuable and feasible, we embed new operational approaches and technologies into Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines R&D with the goals of improving patient and site experiences, expediting drug development, and reducing overall costs. Our success comes by way of our entrepreneurial culture and teamwork.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Define the strategic vision and objectives for the discovery function, aligning with the organization's overall mission and goals.
- Develop and communicate a clear roadmap for discovery initiatives, outlining key priorities, achievements, and success criteria.
- Lead by example, inspiring and motivating the discovery team to achieve excellence and fuel the innovation pipeline.
- Evaluate potential return on investment of addressing business needs, working closely with finance teams.
- Monitor discovery project progress, optimizing resource allocation and mitigating risks.
- Foster a culture of accountability and results-driven decision-making.
- Evaluate and optimize the end-to-end discovery process, from identifying prioritized business needs to best-fit solutions.
- Implement standard processes, and seek new tools, and methodologies to streamline and improve the efficiency of discovery activities.
- Continuously assess and adapt the discovery process to evolving business requirements and market dynamics.
- Build strong relationships with senior leadership, department heads, and other key partners to understand strategic priorities and business objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor, providing strategic guidance and insights on how discovery efforts can support and advance organizational goals.
- Champion a culture of collaboration and innovation, fostering cross-functional partnerships and knowledge sharing.
- Build professional network with cross-industry partners across the clinical innovation ecosystem and external suppliers and use relationships to drive discovery efforts.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and market developments with the potential to address or modify existing business needs, or trigger new needs relevant to the organization's priorities.
