General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), a premier provider to the US Department of Defense and allied nations, is seeking an Director, Business Development to join our San Diego, California team.
As a member of the location senior management team, the Director, Business Development position identifies, develops, and nurtures new business prospects and leads, builds strategic new business relationships, and pursues business opportunities with the aim of growing and expanding our business.
Major Position Responsibilities:
- Directs business development strategies designed to generate, pursue, and close business with prospect accounts.
- Steers request for quote process and helps prioritize new business and follow on customer inquires.
- Guides sitewide strategic approach to tradeshows, conferences and customer visits
- Oversees the development and execution of the organization's business development program in assigned region.
- Assesses potential new markets, evaluates business opportunities, and develops strategies for targeting potential customers.
- Establishes standards governing lead generation, prospect contact and follow-up, and opportunity qualification.
- Develops strategies for assessing customer needs and positioning the organization's products or services as potential solutions.
- Tracks business development activities and reports on results to management.
- Maintains an ongoing level of engagement with key clients and builds trusting relationships with new & existing customers.
- May also include responsibilities for International Business Development Including:
- Overseeing attainment and improvement of international competitive position.
- Develops strategies to maximize sales volumes through effective financial management.
- Implements international marketing and sales policies.
- Evaluates program results to enhance operations and accomplish further success.
- Remaining current in all required training, with a focus on the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).
- Within region of responsibility, develops detailed plans and strategies for the successful penetration of markets, based on customer needs, Business Unit available capacities and competitive analysis.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business or related field
- Master's degree preferred
- 10-12 years experience proven experience in Business Development
- Experience in planning and budgeting. Knowledge of business process and functions (finance, HR, procurement, operations etc.).
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical ability

Pay Range (USD): $116,550.00 - $216,450.00 Additional Compensation - ICP: Hired applicant will be eligible to participate in the Company’s Incentive Compensation Program. Additional Compensation: Hired applicant may be eligible to participate in the Company’s Gain Sharing Program. Benefits: Employees are eligible for medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, and basic life insurance as well as pre-tax spending accounts. Employees are also able to enroll in the company's 401k plan and are eligible for the Non-Contributory Retirement Contribution. In addition to the benefits discussed above, the company offers the following voluntary benefits: Critical Illness Insurance, Accident Insurance, Identify Theft Protection, Enhanced Legal Services, Auto and Home Insurance, Pet Insurance, Commuter Benefits, Hospital Indemnity Insurance, Educational Assistance. PTO, Holiday, and Family Leave: Employees will receive 11 paid holidays and 120 hours of PTO annually and up to 3 weeks paid family leave.
