**JOB SUMMARY**

The Boating Director oversees all aspects of the Boating program including Physical Education programming; Boating Lessons, including private and youth; Boating Club Membership; and assists with the Sailing Sport Club. The Boating Director ensures the safe usage of vessels, and upholds all current health and safety standards.

**APPOINTMENT INFORMATION**

**Budgeted Salary**: $66,900 - $77,100/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

**JOB DUTIES**

50% - Responsible for the oversight of all aspects of the Boating program. This includes Physical Education Courses; Summer and off-season Boating Lesson, including private and youth lessons; Boating Club Activities; and assisting with the Sailing Sport Club.

20% - Oversees all equipment management and maintenance. This includes fleet services for boat registrations and trailer inspections, trailer checkout and evaluations, routine maintenance and upkeep of vessels and facilities.

5% - Ensures all vessels meet or exceed US Coast Guard rules and regulations. Serves as a member of the Boating Safety Committee.

5% - Teaches sailing classes to youths of junior to high school age and adults as part of the Boating Program's community sailing program. Instruction includes introduction and advanced boat handling techniques, as well as general boating and aquatic safety.

5% - Performs other duties as assigned based on the needs, maintenance, and growth of the overall Boating program.

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- Demonstrated advanced leadership skills.
- Excellent written communication skills in the English language.
- Excellent verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate key program information for inclusion in web-based and other marketing materials.
- General knowledge of, or demonstrated ability to learn and apply, campus or higher education policies and procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of program activity and best practices. Demonstrated ability to analyze and improve programs and processes as needed.
- Customer service orientation.
- Skills in program management.
- Sound judgment, problem solving and decision making skills.
- Critical thinking skills. Ability to develop original ideas in a varied and challenging environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across the organization.
- Experience teaching beginning through advanced sailing.

**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- US Coast Guard Captain's license

**SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
- Must possess US Sailing Certificate Instruction.
