**Recreational Activity Aide (12pm-8pm)**

Willow Terrace is looking for an energetic and motivated individual with a passion for improving quality of life for residents in a Long-Term Care setting.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist in planning, organizing and leading of recreational activities based on the needs and interest of the residents and as directed by the Director of Recreation.

2. Recreation services may include sports, dramatics, horticulture, social recreation, sensory programming, games, arts and crafts and more.

3. Encouraging social communication through group recreation.

4. Provides programs of sensory stimulation, reality orientation, re-motivation, and re-socialization on an individual and group basis.

5. Assists residents with participation in religious programs.

6. Assists residents with leisure recreation.

7. Visits bed-ridden residents and non-participants and provides appropriate recreation services.

8. Documents resident attendance and participation level at recreation programs. May assist with writing progress notes, if applicable.

9. Maintenance of recreation department supplies at appropriate inventory levels and stores supplies in an organized manner.

10. Assist with transporting residents to and from recreation programs and social areas.

11. Assist with admission assessments, MDS, care plans, and progress notes.

12. Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.

OTHER DUTIES

1. Interacts with residents, families, visitors, facility and corporate staff.

2. Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.

3. May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, additional hours, and in different positions as the facility’s needs require.

4. Must follow the dress code requirements.

5. Must communicate affectively with Activity Director and department co-workers.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school degree or equivalent.

2. Must have verbal and written communication skills.

3. Must have well-developed organizational skills.

4. Must possess creativity, patience and understanding as it pertains to functional activities for residents with Dementia.

5. Must be able to perform record keeping and documentation as necessary.

6. Must possess the ability to positively interact with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

1. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

2. Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with patients, families, community members, volunteers and other staff on a daily basis. Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care patients and the elderly.

Required education:

- High school or equivalent

Required experience:

- Long Term Care: 1 year

Dementia/Alzheimer’s: 1 year
