Bereavement Volunteer

**_Loving heart? Called to serve? Constellation Hospice is looking for volunteers to visit patients who have a terminal illness. Make a difference in your community, be part of the hospice team, and have a flexible volunteer schedule. One hour a week can make a big difference to someone nearing the end of life_**
Bereavement Volunteer Description:
- Provide support during the 13 months following the death of a hospice patient, through mailings, support groups, phone calls, and rose deliveries.
- Provides emotional support by using active listening skills, provides education regarding normal grief responses, and provides information regarding available community resources
- Reports on any area of concern to the Bereavement Coordinator
- Records accurate, timely, and objective documentation on each volunteer activity
- Works under the direct supervision of the Bereavement Coordinator. If the Bereavement Coordinator is unavailable, volunteers should report to the Volunteer Coordinator
- Phone calls to family members
- filing/assistance with bereavement mailings
- Assists in support groups
- Deliver rose buds to the bereaved on the one-year anniversary of the patient's death
**Requirements**:
- Must be 18 years old or older
- Able to commit for one year to our program
- Ability to listen deeply, interest in and compassion for others, good boundaries and self-care, meet people where they’re at in energy and tone
- Online training takes ~ 20 hours and is personally enriching, focusing on personal death awareness and hospice philosophy
- No close death in the last year
