The Town of Waterford Departments of Recreation & Parks and Public Works are searching for Groundskeepers/Maintainers for seasonal employment. This position is open until filled.

**PURPOSE OF POSITION**:
Perform a variety of basic laborer/groundskeeper tasks proficiently in maintenance and servicing of Town buildings and grounds, tools and equipment as assigned by Supervisor.

**EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:

- Operates and maintains hand tools and small power tools.
- Mows, rakes, shovels, weeds, prunes, cuts brush, and sweeps.
- Tree trimming.
- Plants shrubs, flowers, trees, planters.
- Waters turf and grooms fields.
- Empties garbage, vacuums, loads and unloads materials and equipment, etc.
- Painting, paint spraying, line and sign installation, road maintenance tasks.
- Cleans facilities as assigned.
- May use push mowers, self propelled walk-behind mowers.
- Assists other employees at higher grades.
- Reports any maintenance problems or unsafe conditions.
- May operate small tractors and ¾ ton and one ton vehicles.
- Works on road maintenance, such as patching pot holes, paving, drainage, string trimming, and litter removal from roadsides.

**The essential functions or duties described above are the primary functions and duties of the classification. There may be other types of work that may be performed and the omission of a particular duty or function does not exclude that duty or function from the classification provided the duty or function is similar in work, related to the work or logically assigned to the classification.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skill & Ability)**:
Ability to use or learn to use manual power tools and related equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Considerable physical stamina required. Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with Town officials, public officials, residents, general public, other departments and agencies, and workers. Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license required. Pre-employment drug test required. Must be minimum of 18 years old.

**EDUCATION & TRAINING**:
Experience in maintenance, landscaping, grounds keeping custodial duties or general labor work preferred.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT**:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Must be able to work outdoors year round; be in physical condition to complete assigned duties and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs; climb ladders; be able to work with and around various flowers, trees and other foliage; ability to withstand dust. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to fingers and wrist for repetitive motion, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl, sometimes in awkward positions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat, and vibration. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions, vibration, fumes or airborne particles and works in an odorous environment.

The employee must be able to work harmoniously, cooperatively and courteously with others at all times, and have mental capacity to handle stressful situations. Has ability to adapt to varying work situations and establish and maintain harmonious work relationships with others.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
Minimum of 18 years old

- 8 hour shift
