Responsibilities include providing reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons in-person and online, assisting library patrons in using information and technology resources, and teaching information literacy/library instruction sessions. The Reference & Instruction Librarian also serves as an embedded librarian in online courses, creates online user guides and tutorials, and contributes to collection development.
- This is a part-time, on-site position, requiring some evenings and weekends. As a condition of employment, this position requires participation in a Maryland State Retirement System plan.
- Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.**Required Education**
- A master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution or in a closely related field, and advanced knowledge of reference service principles and information literacy competency standards are required**Required Experience**
- At least one year of experience working in a library setting**Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities**
- Advanced knowledge of reference service principles and information literacy competency standards and proficiency in a Windows-based computer environment are required.**Preferred Qualifications**
- One year of library instruction or other teaching experience strongly preferred. Experience in an academic setting preferred. Demonstrated ability to teach library instruction classes, experience providing reference and research help services, and experience creating online tutorials and resource guides preferred.**Hours per Week**
