**SUMMARY**:
The BEGIN (Business, Entrepreneurship, Government, Industry, Nonprofit) Program Specialist works under the supervision of the Career Services Program Manager in collaboration with the BEGIN Special Projects Officer and both internal and external constituents to advance the BEGIN initiative. The BEGIN Program Specialist will work to create a strong network with academic institutions, business, entrepreneurial, government labs and agencies, industry, and nonprofit) entities. In this position, the BEGIN Program Specialist will be instrumental in cultivating databases of contacts and opportunities, facilitating meetings with constituents, and assisting with the development and facilitation of professional preparation programs. The goal is to support the BEGIN initiative and to increase AMS brand awareness among BEGIN entities and graduate programs. **This is a three-year, grant-funded position.**

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:

- Build databases of BEGIN contacts for targeted opportunities, and track follow-up efforts to lead to desired action.
- In coordination with the BEGIN Special Projects Officer, develop strategy for professional preparation programs to be offered by the AMS.
- Develop, grow, and leverage relationships with BEGIN entities and others where mathematically trained people can flourish in careers.
- Conduct proactive outreach to set up appointments, develop targeted proposals, and overcome objections to establish BEGIN partnerships.
- Assist in the development of strategies that will market and sustain activities which target BEGIN entities, academic departments, and students.
- Travel to industry shows and conferences to promote and market the BEGIN program.
- Provide administrative support to the BEGIN Special Projects Officer, including but not limited to:

- Arranging travel, organizing meetings and events, processing travel, payments, and invoicing on behalf of BEGIN.
- Managing the grant budget, keeping track of expenditures and grant reimbursements, as well as any quarterly or annual reports, in collaboration with the Finance and Operations Division.
- Assist with collecting information, document management, and communications related to preparing grant proposals and administering grant-supported projects on behalf of BEGIN.
- Other duties as assigned.

**INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS**:

- Work with internal departments on messaging, marketing, strategies and planning.
- Strategize, in coordination with internal stakeholders, to build a sustainable sponsorship pipeline and portfolio to support AMS’ programs and projects with external organizations.
- Coordinate workflow with various AMS departments, including Programs, Membership, Meetings, Meetings and Professional Services, Development, Fiscal, and Creative Services.
- Develop partnerships with external stakeholders to strengthen ties between people in academia and BEGIN areas.
