**Position Summary**:
Animal Care Supervisor position. HSCI is a not for profit (501(c)3) animal welfare organization. HSCI operates one limited intake Animal Shelter in Normal IL. HSCI takes in approximately 1,100 animals annually. The shelter accepts cats, dogs, and small animals (guinea pigs, rabbits, hamsters, rats, etc) from animal control facilities, other rescues, and the general public.

HSCI is seeking a professional and knowledgeable individual with a passion for animals and bettering the lives of homeless animals. The person hired will be responsible for the day-to-day animal care operations of the shelter and will report to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities include safety, animal care (housing, feeding, medical, enrichment, cleaning protocols), and adoptions for the HSCI animals, as well as supervising staff and volunteers. The manager will also be responsible for championing the HSCI vision, contributing toward setting and achieving operational goals, maintaining records, developing/following HSCI policy & procedures, and compliance with all state/federal laws.

**Primary Responsibilities**
- Supervises animal care team members including hiring, training, development, coaching, performance management and salary administration.
- Creates an environment and experiences for staff (employees and volunteers) that fosters engagement and commitment to the organization.
- Oversee the population of animals to ensure the shelter population numbers are consistent. Work with other rescue groups to coordinate the intake of animals.
- Coordinates with veterinary clinic staff on medical care and medical issues. Oversees the administration of vaccinations, medications and treatments of animals as prescribed by the veterinarian. Coordinates with the medical staff to schedule spays/neuters, medical visits, and emergency care.
- Develops and maintains staffing plans for the shelter, ensuring the facility is adequately staffed and supported by paid (direct hire), vendor and volunteer staff at all times.
- Develops and maintains positive, professional relationships with the public, staff, vendors (includes veterinarians), donors, local businesses, volunteers, animal control, and other enabling partners.
- Prepares reports, develops operational procedures, promotes adoption events, interacts with donors and volunteers, gives tours, and represents the shelter at community events.
- Partners with other staff members to share accurate information (e.g., photos, descriptions) for adoptable animals on website and other marketing outlets.

**Physical and Other Work Demands**
- May be required to work additional hours outside of standard schedule, non-standard hours, including varying work shifts, nights, weekends and holidays, based on workload and as the operation dictates.
- Physical demands including lifting and moving animals, cages, etc. up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to dangerous, diseased, frightened, and injured animals, as well as exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and drugs
- Indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Emotional demands including dealing with issues like euthanasia and animal abuse/neglect

**Qualifications**
- Minimum of 3 years experience in animal care (veterinary or rescue), and/or educational degree (bachelors or associates) in Business, Animal Science, Veterinary Technology or other closely related field
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience
- Experience working in a shelter/rescue environment (preferred)
- Experience in animal behavior and appropriate interventions (preferred)
- Ability to perform blood draws and fecal examinations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations for the workplace, including Wage and Hour laws
- Demonstrated knowledge of Department of Agriculture and OSHA regulations
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organization and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in the use of computer and technology software/programs (e.g., Microsoft
