Advanced placement to the Trainee 2 or Grade 18 level may be possible depending on education and experience.

Competitive Minimum Qualifications:

70.1 Transfer:

- For a 70.1 transfer to this title, you must have one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a 70.1 title allocated to a salary grade 16 or above (11 or above for a Trainee 1, 12 or above for a Trainee 2).

70.4 Transfer:

- For a 70.4 transfer to this title, your current title must be within two salary grades, and either be on the PCO or be on the PATT and possess a bachelor’s degree. Your score on either the PCO or PATT does not need to be reachable.

52.6 Transfer:

- For a 52.6 transfer to this title, you must have one year of permanent or contingent-permanent service in a 52.6 title allocated to a salary grade 16 or above (11 or above for a Trainee 1, 12 or above for a Trainee 2).

55-b/c program appointments:
For a 55 b/c appointment, you must:

- Meet the applicable mínimal mental and/or physical requirements for the job (with a reasonable accommodation, if necessary)

Depending on qualifications, you may be required to serve a 1 or 2-year traineeship that leads to the full level grade 18 position.

**Duties Description**

New York State leads the nation in developing a robust culture of Medicaid program integrity and healthcare compliance. Formed in 2006 to more efficiently use resources dedicated to fighting fraud, waste, and abuse, we are a small agency with a big impact To fulfill its mission, the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) performs audits, investigations, and reviews of Medicaid services and providers and works with other federal and state agencies that have regulatory oversight or law enforcement powers. Each year, the agency has identified or recovered billions of dollars in cost avoidance and recoveries to offset Medicaid program costs. OMIG staff primarily work on Medicaid program integrity functions. These positions include auditors, investigators, nurses, data analysts, pharmacists, other clinical/medical professionals, compliance specialists, program administrators/managers, and persons providing legal, technological, and administrative support, in seven offices across the State.

OMIG is recruiting to fill entry-level positions in all of its program areas. Depending on the program area, Medicaid Integrity Specialists perform a broad range of activities to promote Medicaid program integrity and appropriate delivery and utilization of Medicaid programs and services. Examples include:
Auditing of billing and claims data
Preferred Skills: experience reviewing claims or billing data, attention to detail, use of tables and spreadsheets.
Educating/assisting/monitoring compliance with program regulations
Preferred Skills: ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and to simplify complex rules into user-friendly guidance.
Collecting and analyzing data
Preferred Skills: Experience using query language, such as SQL, to synthesize large data sets into useful auditing tools.
Evaluating and assessing appropriateness of provider or recipient enrollment and participation in the Medicaid program, Mandatory reporting, and analyzing and developing referrals for corrective action
Preferred Skills: Research and analytical skills; ability to evaluate findings as compared to program regulations; ability to draft a conclusion, experience reviewing, editing, or writing reports.
