**OBJECTIVE**:
The Controller will manage and oversee the accounting operations of the company's New York division, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of daily transactions and month-end and quarter-end reporting. This role reports to the Senior Director, Finance at the corporate office and is critical in driving the financial success of the business and achieving organizational strategic goals.
**_ Supervisory Responsibilities:_**
- Manage the operations of the New York Finance Department, including daily cash management, revenue reporting and reconciliation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory management, bank reconciliations, payroll, and fixed asset procurement.
- Manage a team of (2) finance personnel and liaise with operations personnel at manufacturing and retail locations.
- Identify and implement training programs to enhance team performance.
**Duties/Responsibilities**:
- Responsible for maintenance of the general ledger and trial balance under US GAAP, recording daily transactions and overseeing all month-end close activities. Support the corporate team as necessary in their preparation of IFRS adjustments to meet public financial reporting requirements.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial reporting and budget-to-actual analysis; identify and report significant variances to management and offer financial insights and recommendations.
- Recommend and monitor KPI benchmarks to measure company performance.
- Interact with multiple IT platforms for aggregation and analysis of sales and inventory data to drive insights based on historical performance and trends.
- Liaise with operational personnel at the company's manufacturing and retail locations to reconcile sales data, manage inventory levels, and record fixed asset purchases.
- Ensure compliance with local and state regulations, including remittance of sales and distribution-based taxes.
- Implement, review, and monitor internal controls over financial reporting, inventory, sales, and procure-to-pay processes, among others.
- Work with external auditors and provide needed information for the annual audit.
- Contribute to the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statement and MD&A public filings.
- Contribute to ad-hoc projects to support a broad number of strategic decisions as necessary or assigned.
**Required Skills/Abilities**:
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with personnel in all functional areas and levels of the business.
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting practices with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong understanding of ERP systems; experience with Acumatica an asset.
- Proficiency in analyzing financial data and identifying trends; experience in management cost accounting an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with willingness and ability to adopt new systems and software.
**Education and Experience**:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration required.
- 5-7+ years relevant experience in finance and accounting, with 1-2 years' experience in a controllership position.
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
**Physical Requirements**:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Able to travel periodically to New York operational locations as needed.
