The Surgery Center at Mills River is accredited by Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) for compliance with a comprehensive set of national standards.

1. Education: Graduate of an accredited High school or GED. Able to read and communicate in English. BLS. Thorough knowledge of supplies and equipment in the field of Central Sterile Supply. Knowledge of Sterile Processing regulatory requirements.

2. Experienc_e_: One to three years of practice - preferably in an OR and/or training and Central Sterile Processing.

**7. Duties**

A. Maintains a clean and orderly central processing area (e.g. shelves, counters, equipment).

B. Adheres to sterilization process policies and procedures.

C. Understands sterilization processes, steam, gas, and cold, and its impact on various instruments and equipment.

D. Provides the mechanism to identify what type of sterilization is necessary for the various instruments.

E. Determines whether each instrument is in good working condition.

F. Assists with case cart set-ups and checks for accuracy and completeness daily.

G. Sorts and arranges items into proper trays according to established policy/procedure.

Wraps trays and individual items according to established policy/procedure

Accurately labels each item with name and expiration date.

H. Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washer, and other processing equipment (i.e., positions items correctly in sterilizer, selects proper cycle, seeks assistance when needed).

I. Checks equipment indicators for proper functioning.

J. Performs required biological/chemical monitoring tests on all sterilizers and maintains logs according to established policy/procedure

K. Maintains availability of recording reports.

L. Maintains inventory levels and accurate records.

1. Maintains a back-up supply of instruments, to facilitate replacement of broken instruments.

M. Performs weekly inspections of all sterile items in the facility.

1. Checks for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilizer items; replaces items as necessary.

2. Implements a system which facilitates inventory exchange.

3. Notifies Clinical Administrator if inventory is not current or not rotated.

N. Places items in correct location.

O. Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for the sterile processing area.

P. Maintains/updates the instrument tray inventory list.

**8. Professionally**

A. Adhere to the dress code; appearance is neat and clean.

B. Complete annual educational requirements.

C. Maintain patient confidentially at all times.

D. Report to work on time and as scheduled, with flexibility to the schedule.

E. Wear identification while on duty.

F. Represent the organization in a positive manner.

G. Comply with ALL policies and procedures.
