**Position Overview**:
The veterinary technician is the doctor’s primary medical support person. They begin the examination procedure and continue to assist the doctor throughout the examination, diagnosis, and treatment phase. The veterinary technician helps aid the doctors in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work and administrative detail. They have a significant role in communicating with clients about their animals. Veterinary technician reports directly to Clinic Manager. This position is Monday - Thursday.

**Responsibilities and Duties**:

- Provides compassionate care to patients
- Performs all duties in accordance with hospital medical policies and procedures.
- Prepares and maintains the surgery suite, exam room, and treatment areas
- Assists the doctor in medical, surgical, and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery, administering anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery.
- Administers fluids, oral, IM, SQ and IV medications in accordance with hospital policy.
- Performs emergency procedures such as control of bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways when necessary.
- Assists in animal restraint
- Performs clinical laboratory procedures such as; skin scrapings, urinalysis, fungal cultures, and blood draw for laboratory analysis
- Maintain lab test results and ensure that test results are recorded in patient records.
- Admittance and discharge of patients on the doctor’s orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state.
- Counsel clients on various aspects of animal care by explaining dosage/purpose of medications, reinforcing the proper care to be followed at home, and makes follow up calls to clients when needed.
- Properly clean all surgical equipment after use and repacking of surgical instrument and sterilization
- Keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery.
- Maintains an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by the inventory control system.
- Assist the other staff members as required.
- Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
- Sedate, place catheter, intubate and prep for surgery accordingly
- Stock all inventory items such as syringes, needles, catheters, bandage material etc.

**Qualification**:

- Veterinary Technician experience of 2 yrs. or more.
- Ability to multitask
- Experience restraining dogs and cats
- Knowledge of cat and dog body language
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (Bi-Lingual plus)
- Ability to handle stressful environment involving animals, fosters and clients
- Ability to lift 50lbs
