Central Garden & Pet is seeking a **Grain & Ingredient Merchandiser Manager** to join our Pet Segment in Franklin, WI. Merchandisers (strategic sourcing of grains & ingredients) are responsible for purchasing commodities for use in manufacturing or production. In this role, you will be responsible for commodity and ingredient supply chain raw material demand for the manufacturing of small animal, pet, and wild bird products.

The Grain & Ingredient Merchandiser Manager plays a vital role in ensuring that the business has the commodities needed to operate efficiently and profitably by carefully managing the procurement process, building relationships with key suppliers, monitoring market trends, and meeting financial objectives. As a strategic buyer of grains and ingredients you will mitigate risk, reduce cost, improve profitability, and improve PPV and DPO.

The Grain & Ingredient Merchandiser Manager will be based out of our Central Specialty pet business office in Franklin, WI. Our offices are conveniently located 20 minutes south of Milwaukee and 35 minutes north of the Illinois border in the Franklin Business Park within minutes of local restaurants and stores.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Directly oversees grain commodity sourcing spend of $40MM+
- Manages commodities specialist responsible for freight movement, plant offloading schedules, plan fumigation schedules, contract uploads and purchase requisition details within SAP. The commodity specialist works directly with QA on supplier verifications, clearance of products within the FSP, movement of products to sterilization / irradiation supply houses.
- Responsible for identifying and executing net productivity savings projects for the business unit designed to drive year over year savings.
- Develops and executes purchasing strategies for assigned commodities.
- Sources, identifies and qualifies suppliers of small animal, pet, and wild bird products
- Negotiates and manages contracts with producers, suppliers, elevators and brokers
- Monitors and manages supplier performance. Maintains primary supplier database (SAP).
- Ensures commodities are purchased at competitive prices and delivered on time and in full.
- Builds and maintains relationships with elevators, brokers, producers, and other suppliers.
- Monitors market index of commodities and freight rates.
- Manages inventory levels, using S&OP forecast to ensure plant(s) coverage profiles.
- Conducts market research and analysis, reports on market insights providing direction and gaining alignment on business decisions.
- Stays up to date on industry trends and best practices.
- Meet or exceed financial objectives, including Net Productivity, PPV, and DPO improvement.
- Partner with quality team to ensure suppliers and co-manufacturers are compliant with our food safety plan through annual surveys and foreign supplier verifications.
- Own the strategic buying of grains and ingredients working to secure the business unit needs while also collaborating across CG&P for network demand and insight.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build trust and credibility with Growers, Co-ops, and Elevators.
- Ability to learn SAP, Outlooks, excel and various reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Attention to detail and accuracy; problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to organize and process paperwork (administrative) for accounting such as cutting purchase orders and contracts to suppliers.

**MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION**
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field (required)
- Experience working with and developing relationships with Growers, Co-ops, Elevators developing long term relationships is preferred.
- Knowledge of the small animal, pet, and wild bird food industry and grains specifically: Corn, Wheat, Millet, Milo, Black Oil Sunflowers, Safflower, Thistle, Canary, Peanuts
