The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping project. The ACLED team conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED material is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support the work of practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protest around the world.

**The role**

ACLED is looking for a **Part-Time GIS Analyst **to perform data manipulation, spatial analysis, and mapping. The Analyst will integrate data, create and use geospatial data, and build spatial databases. This job will be for up to 20 hours per week consistently and with potential for promotion. It involves responding to geospatial tasks and development at ACLED.

This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service (GMT/CET working hours preferred). The start date for this position is 15 June 2024 and it reports to the **Chief of Global Programs.**

This position is open to nationals of any country.

**Specific roles and responsibilities**

The **GIS Analyst **will be responsible for the following:

- Data manipulation, spatial analysis, and mapping;
- Integrate data, create and use geospatial data, and build spatial databases, and other geospatial tasks and development at ACLED, as determined by the team.

**Skills and competencies**

ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:

- Advanced GIS and applied statistical analysis experience or research, including fluency in common coding environments (e.g., R, Python, etc.)
- Expertise designing cartographic and other types of visualizations (online webGIS platforms and print)
- Advanced skills in working with demographic data
- Advanced skills in working with spatial data
- Familiarity, if not extensive work, with data from difficult-to-access or data-poor environments (e.g., estimations of and managing uncertainty in estimates)
- Preferred skills and background:_
- Familiarity working in and using data from, the global south
- An advanced degree in quantitative spatial sciences and GIS
- Ability to work remotely and meet deadlines with limited supervision (experience working in a remote environment preferred)
- Fluency in English (essential)
- Ability to work 20 hours a week
