Under general direction from the Senior Apprenticeship Consultant within the Division of Apprenticeship Standards, the Apprenticeship Consultant is responsible for providing technical assistance, guidance and support to apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs while serving as a source of information to workers, employers, their representatives, and the public regarding Apprenticeship, Pre-Apprenticeship and On-The-job training programs. Develop and consult with Apprenticeship and "On-The-Job" training programs, provide guidance on compliance with state and federal apprenticeship laws and regulations, conduct program reviews, attend apprenticeship program meetings, public meetings, job fairs and outreach events.
Detailed-oriented, efficient, and organized

- Demonstrate tact, impartiality, flexibility, and a Calm demeanor.
- Frequent in-state travel required (daily/weekly), occasional flights and overnight stays.
- The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff at all levels, both within and outside of DIR to complete work assignments related to case management.

The incumbent works 40 hours per week part time in an office setting, part time traveling in transient, and part time working from a home office. Indoor cubicle office environment for several hours a day. Involves being in a stationary position most of the time. Work remotely at community business partners locations.
- The position requires local and regional travel in addition to early start and/or late-night meetings. Occasional travel to attend committee meetings and outreach events. Collaborate with staff statewide to complete work assignments.

The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. Its mission is to improve working conditions for California's wage earners and to advance opportunities for profitable employment in California. DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers.
