**This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment. OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.**

**_Duties_**

This is a grant-funded position assigned to the Florida Department of Health in Broward County under the direct supervision of the Program Manager of the Overdose Data to Action Program. The Academic Detailer will utilize the National Resource Center for Academic Detailing (NaRCAD), to provide one-on-one outreach education to equip providers and health systems to make evidence-based prescribing decisions, have timely and complete information regarding non-opioid medications and non-pharmacologic treatments, identify patients at risk for overdose or opioid use disorder, and then either offer or connect patients with appropriate care. The Academic Detailer will follow the NaRCADs model of introduction, needs assessment, key messages, features and benefits, barriers and enablers, handling objections, summary, and close as laid out by NaRCADs implementation guidance, train new academic detailers, and provide daily site support to detailing team. The Academic Detailer will conduct one-on-one educational visits with healthcare professionals, providing evidence-based, interactive sessions with front-line clinicians about the efficacy, safety, and effectiveness of medications, guidelines, and prevention tools. The Academic Detailer will be responsible for creating presentations with the detailing team and other educational materials to discuss evidence-based information on opioid safety, substance use disorder, harm, and stigma reduction under the supervision of the Program Manager.
- Deliver the service of one-on-one educational visits to physicians and health professionals on a designated clinical topic, using evidence-based materials to complement the presentation.
- Establish and maintain positive, service-oriented relationships with the prescribers and office staff through repeated office visits and contacts.
- Develop creative outreach strategies to gain access to healthcare offices, schedule appointments, meet with clinicians, and follow up on requests for additional information and support.
- Attend community events with the academic detailing team.
- Act as a liaison between the physician community and program staff.
- Capture visit data and provide a report to the Program Manager.

**Knowledge, skills, and abilities**
- Thorough knowledge of public health principles, practices, and/or techniques.
- Previous experience in public health, health education, communications/marketing, and/or pharmaceutical or medical sales experience.
- Ability to assess clinicians’ needs, communicate medical information, and develop and deliver evidence-based presentations discuss opioid safety, substance use disorder, harm reduction, and stigma reduction.
- Self-motivated and ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Possess excellent communication skills (writing, spelling, listening, and speaking), and interoperation skills.
- The ability to visit physicians during various times throughout the day.
- Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents, and other written materials.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse communities and/or populations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to coordinate and promote Opioid Prevention activities.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and work as a part of a team.
- Ability to travel within the CHD or travel to various locations by driving a State Vehicle or having access to a Personal Vehicle.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Are you willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours, or days in the event of an emergency? Additionally, emergency duties are inclusive of working in Special Needs Shelters, or performing other emergency duties, but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster, man-made or natural.
- Valid driver’s license free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes and receive reimbursement for mileage.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with major study in Public Health or another related field.
- Experience in the field of the public health
