**TITLE**:
Special Education Transportation Specialist
**PRIMARY FUNCTION**:
To support instructional delivery and student achievement through service to the Transportation and Student Services Departments in managing transportation needs and related Medicaid billing and case management services for students with Individualized Education Plans
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:
High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years’ experience in the operation of computers.
Prior experience preferred, but not required, in administrative roles working in any of the following areas: finance, special education programs, public health, case management or transportation.
Must possess/maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license with a positive point balance
Experience with current version of Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Works, and various learning management systems
Demonstrate leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively and administrators, teachers, and students
Ability to work independently
**REPORTS TO**:
Director of Transportation
**PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Develop and monitor the routing of specialized transportation needs for students
Confidentially access and analyze student IEP’s and 504’s to view transportation requirements, accommodations and special requests to synthesize and share relevant information with transportation personnel to meet transportation service needs
Maintain all related monthly paperwork for all van, car, and special education bus drivers
Interact directly with private day school administration, student services personnel, school nurses and parents
Know and adhere to state and federal laws dictating special transportation requirements and implementation
Participate in regional meetings with other special transportation specialists and department heads
Work with technology, finance, and transportation management to get information for quarterly and annual reports
Train all Medicaid participants to include bus drivers, therapists, nurses, and psychologists
Monitor all service providers for compliance standards according to local, state, and federal laws
Work with Department of Education, Medicaid, Prince George County, and University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Submit quarterly administrative claims
Match all Medicaid eligible students quarterly
Complete annual state report which determines reimbursement totals for the previous school year
Track bus riders for all special education transportation
Handle highly confidential medical, personal, and billing information
Attend quarterly coordinator meetings with representatives from other school divisions
Attend annual state required training
Demonstrates ability to work effectively with school officials, community groups, and other staff members. Comply with administrative directives and school board policy.
Demonstrate good work habits to include punctual and regular attendance, efficient use of time, submit reports accurately and punctually, and demonstrate self-control in interactions with others.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**:
Involves limited physical tasks including lifting and operation of equipment such as computers, LCD projectors, Interactive panels
**TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
12 Months, Grade D20
**EVALUATION**:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Personnel
