**GENERAL PURPOSE**
- Maintains repairs and installs wastewater treatment plant equipment, machinery and
- related facilities; maintains a variety of records; participates in special projects; and
- performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
- This is a mid-level class within the Plant Maintenance. Employees within this class are
- distinguished form the Plant Maintenance Technician I by the performance of the full
- range of duties as assigned including performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance,
- repair and installation activities independently. Employees at this level receive only
- occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware
- of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class series are
- flexible staffed and positions at the Plant Maintenance Technician II level are normally
- filled by advancement form the Plant Maintenance Technician I level. This class is
- distinguished from the Plant Maintenance Technician III in that the latter assumes lead
- responsibilities and is assigned the more complex maintenance and repair duties.

- None

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Inspects and/or repairs UV system, pumping stations, belt press, clarifiers, meters, mowers, electrical systems and related plant systems at frequent intervals to insure that all aspects of the system are functioning properly.
- Modify or fabricate equipment for special purposes to perform job assignments.
- Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, sludge returned, sludge wasted and volume discharged.
- Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
- Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, sludge pumps, etc.
- Utilizes operation and maintenance manuals and engineering data.
- Install, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic and control devices.
- Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
- Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
- Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
- Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans and flushes plant water service lines and cleans clarifiers.
- Services grit pumps, sewer lift stations pumps and other pumps as well as belt press.
- Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment.

**PERIPHERAL DUTIES**:

- Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
- Education and Experience:

- (A) High school diploma or GED equivalent, and
- (B) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- (A) Basic knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures
- used in maintenance, construction and repair activities;
- (B) Skill in operation of some listed tools and equipment utilized in a wastewater
- treatment plant.
- (C) Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; Ability
- to work safely; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
- employees, other departments and the public; Ability to understand and carry
- out written and oral instructions.

**SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Valid Class “C” Wastewater Treatment License.

**TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED**:

- Motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, tamper, saws, pumps, tractor trailer, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tool, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone, and high pressure wash.
