**Salary & Benefits**:This is a full-time, permanent, career position. The salary is $42,000 commensurate with experience. The agency benefit package includes health, life, and disability insurance, retirement plan, and bonus program.

**Position Summary**:The Youth Mentor must develop a strong one-to-one relationship with youth taking part in the program, as an advocate, monitor, and as a proactive interventionist. The Youth Mentor will also develop supplemental enrichment programs and deliver high quality services to youth in collaboration with a network of case managers and foster care providers. The Youth Mentor reports to the Contracts and Grants Manager.

**Position Responsibilities**:

- Develop and maintain a strong professional and supportive relationship with each youth in the program, as an advocate and liaison between the youth, the school community, and the child-welfare community
- Establish good working relationships and effective lines of communication with all teachers and staff
- Work closely with teachers to provide a team work approach for student’s emotional and academic needs
- Establish and maintain good relationships and ongoing communication with DCFS/POS case managers, GALs and foster parents, providing quarterly updates of student performance and standards
- Maintain student confidentiality and maintain case notes on student activity, unusual incidents, and contacts with all child welfare supports
- Monitor, record, and report student daily attendance (as required) and update MIS data weekly
- Assist in the management of the DCFS contract
- Work closely with school administrators and teachers in the interviewing and selection of all students
- Work closely with school administrators and teachers in the development of student education/graduation plans, performing and interpreting all student assessments
- Make home visitations to all students (daily) when they fail to attend school and when the absence is not excused
- Oversee student daily and closely monitor long-term compliance with the educational/graduation plan
- Assist with post-secondary activities and placement

**Qualifications/Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent skills
- 3 years of related experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Must have a car for work related travel
- Strong and effective communication and networking skills with youth at the highest risk of violence involvement and with referral partners. For example, Chicago Police Department, Cook County Probation and Court Services
- The building blocks for working with youth at the highest risk of violence involvement, but also incorporating youth voice throughout the process
- A mechanism to provide support for placed-based, community-based organizations to create a service delivery network
- Experience serving youth with the highest risk of violence involvement successfully with strong performance outcomes
- Demonstrated skills creating and implementing a comprehensive outreach strategy and plan
