**JOB SUMMARY**:
Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for Human Resources, the mentor/substituite principal serves as a master principal assigned to a group of new principals to contact, observe, coach, and mentor on a regular basis; providing information to others; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards. The mentor/substitute principal may also be called to serve as administrator in the absence of the building administration.

**EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION**:

- A. or M.S. in Education
- Illinois Professional Educator License with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement
- Five or more years of successful teaching experience.
- Five or more years of successful principal experience.
- Position for retired personnel.
- Current Administrator Academy credit recorded in ELIS.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of best practices, Common Core State Standards, and The Framework for Teaching Evaluation Instrument.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data analysis and its use to improve teaching and learning.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Assesses skills and needs (both initially and ongoing) of principals new to the Joliet Public Schools District 86 and/or profession for the purpose of ensuring appropriate assistance on strategies identified for mentoring activities.
- Build relationships with new principals in the district for the purpose of establishing an environment of trust and collaboration.
- Coaches and assists new principals with strategies to support teachers for the purpose of improving instruction.
- Collaborates with the Cabinet, other mentors, curriculum and student services coordinators for the purpose of identifying professional support linked to job competencies.
- Models professionalism at all times for the purpose of demonstrating expected behaviors and actions for principals.
- Orients new principals to the mentoring program (e.g. responsibilities, schedules, polices with regard to involvement within the building, etc.) for the purpose of providing principals with information regarding program objectives, identifying training needs and reviewing functions of the mentor.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Serves as the substitute administrator in the absence of building administration.
- Maintain commitment to ongoing professional development.
