You’ll be on a team committed to delivering the best experience for those choosing Newport News for their leisure travel or meeting destination. As the _**Tourism Development Coordinator**_, in the _**Communications Department**_, you would be responsible for creating and executing a variety of programs and special projects to generate and increase tourism metrics and revenue for the City. You will be working with stakeholders from various Newport News attractions, hotels, travel planners, and City and Regional departments to develop strategic initiatives and partnerships to increase group sales efforts. The job includes some travel to conferences and other tourism-related business meetings. Must be able to manage or assist with special events and festivals including organizing, promoting, and staffing needs outside of regular office hours. _

**What would a typical day on the job be like?** **What work would I do?** As the Tourism **Coordinator**, in the Communications Department, you will be responsible for creating and executing a variety of programs and special projects to generate and increase tourism metrics and revenue for the City of Newport News. You will be working with stakeholders from various Newport News attractions, hotels, travel planners, and City and Regional departments to develop strategic initiatives and partnerships to increase group sales efforts and represent “Visit Newport News” on various committees and associations. You will also be researching and identifying grant and other funding opportunities for tourism growth and development.

**How much money can I make?** The Tourism Coordinator position has an estimated competitive salary range of $60,107.42 - $70,560.88 annually. The actual salary for this position will be commensurate with education and experience.

**What are the qualifications for this position?** This position requires: Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field; AND 3-5 years related marketing, development and research experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

An acceptable general background check to include a state and local criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record will also be required.
