Operates the ultrasound equipment, performs a wide variety of technical procedures, and assumes the responsibility for the patients in the area. This position requires age related competencies. Performs all other job duties as assigned. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

Performs general ultrasound procedures (abdomen, OB/GYN, small parts and vascular).
Performs 2D, pulsed wave Doppler, color flow Doppler evaluations on the upper and lower extremities for both the arterial and venous systems, visceral vascular and carotid imaging.
Performs appropriate measurements and calculations for each of the ultrasound exams.
Reviews in-patient requisitions and prioritizes patient list in order of severity of illness, special procedures, special requests, equipment availability, and patient; revises patient schedule as new procedures are requested and circumstances change.
Maintains patient logbook on a daily basis.
Develops film by automatic processing in a timely manner; manipulates laser printer and processor as necessary to obtain the highest quality images possible.
Performs daily quality control checks on the processor and generates a monthly report of the results summary.
Performs monthly calibration on the laser.
Responsible for procurement, storage, and routing of supplies for room preparation as needed to insure smooth functioning of areas within the ultrasound department.
When US Tech II or higher level serves as a preceptor for students enrolled in an accredited sonography program.
Utilizes surgical technique effectively as needed in performing sterile procedures.
Responsible for ensuring reusable instruments are delivered to the appropriate department for sterilization.

ISMC Ultrasound Lab Only: In addition to above ultrasound procedures, also performs:

Cardiac ultrasound examinations (2D and M-mode) in all patient groups (adults through neonates);
Cardiac Doppler examinations (continuous wave Doppler, pulsed wave Doppler and color flow Doppler) where clinically indicated or specifically ordered;
Transesophageal cardiac ultrasound examinations, both 2D and Doppler; micro cavitation studies
Stress echocardiograms and dobutamine stress echocardiograms; and
Segmental blood pressures, volume pulse recording and Doppler waveform studies on the upper and lower extremity arterial system.

Diagnostic Cardiology (IBMC) Lab Only: In addition to above departmental functions, clinical functions include performance of:

Cardiac ultrasound examinations (2D and M-mode) in all patient groups (adults through neonates); cardiac Doppler examinations (continuous wave Doppler, pulsed wave Doppler and color flow Doppler) where clinically indicated or specifically ordered
Transesophageal cardiac ultrasound examinations, both 2D and Doppler
Micro cavitation studies; stress echocardiograms (exercise and pharmacological)
Non imaging peripheral vascular evaluations inclusive of: segmental blood pressures, volume pulse recording and Doppler wave forms studies on the upper and lower extremity arterial system
2D, pulsed wave Doppler, color flow Doppler evaluations on the upper and lower extremities for both the arterial and venous systems, and carotid imaging
Stress ECG exams and Pulmonary Stress Exams.
Assists outreach clients in the performance of electrocardiograph procedures, scheduling procedures, posting charges to patient accounts, transcription of diagnostic reports on procedures and report delivery.

Lead Technologist:

Plans and coordinates scheduling, employee shift scheduling, ordering of supplies, reviews protocols and ensures they are up to date.
Assists in conducting employee orientation, evaluations and disciplinary actions.
Ensures equipment calibration by performing quality control tests according to established procedures and frequency schedule.
Provides instruction and technical assistance to the US technologist concerning the operation of the equipment.
Coordinates and monitors compliance with ACR/ICAVL accreditations. For Lakeside Women's Hospital:
Ensures all instruments are decontaminated and stored using the appropriate processes, solutions, supplies and equipment.
Completes the necessary procedures for sterilization per manufacturer instructions and hospital procedures.
Responsible for preparing and documenting sterilization process charts, logs and records per hospital and regulatory guidelines.
Completes high level disinfectant process education annually, as applicable. ISMC and IBMC

Reports to the respective departmental Operations Manager.

Accountable for: Satisfactory attendance by regularly reporting to work for scheduled shift, clocking in at scheduled start time, completing assigned duties in a timely manner, providing excellent customer service to internal and external customer. Also accountable for training and mentoring students and new staff. Requires considerable coordination and extremely accurate touch to set controls to achieve diagnostic images. Must have considerable manual dexterity to utilize a computer keyboard. Must be able to hear and speak in order to communicate with others. Must be able to see, read and write. Requires the ability to distinguish between colors. Near visual acuity and depth perception is required to examine monitors during the exam and exposed film after the exam for pertinent detail. Standing or walking is required most of the time - 80% Must be able to manipulate patients weighing over 200 lbs., occasionally requiring considerable physical efforts on a daily basis. Exerts up to 26 lbs. push force in moving portable ultrasound equipment weighing up to 500 lbs. to site where examinations are to be performed, 2-3 times per week. Requires reaching for and handling films, cassettes, supportive devices and machine controls. May carry loads weighing 10-25 lbs. several times a month. Exposed to moveable equipment, chemical fumes from processors while developing films, patients with contagious diseases, electrical equipment, ionizing radiation, and contamination or infection through accidental needle puncture or exposure to blood and/or body fluids. Occasional exposures to odor, blood, chemical irritation, and a variety of constant interruption, frequent emergency call back causing erratic working hours and overtime, and works in a darkened room up to 60% of the time.

Bachelor's degree preferred.
Current RDMS or RDCS certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography required.
2 years experience as an Ultrasound Technologist.
Current CRP certification within 90 days of hire.
Supervisory experience preferred.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English (Written/Verbal).
