Under the direction of an administrator or manager, operates and administers the college’s servers and Office 365 tenant; secures the college’s information systems; serves as the back up to the Network Infrastructure team and assists the Network Administrator, as needed.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Essential responsibilities are designated by *.

Performs a variety of essential responsibilities related to the installation, maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting issues with physical, virtual, and cloud-based servers. *
Administers the college’s Office 365 tenant, including but not limited to the email system and user/group account management. *
Evaluates, designs, installs, configures, and maintains the college’s server, network and telecommunication systems. *
Identifies, researches, troubleshoot, and resolves system issues with reference to the college’s policies, procedures, and best practices. *
Develops and manages backup solutions to minimize service disruptions; reviews, monitors, and analyzes system performance; makes appropriate recommendations to enhance system performance. *
Plans, deploys, secures, supports, updates, maintains, and documents the technical infrastructure of the college including but not limited to servers and desktop functions related to network systems.
Researches, installs, analyzes, updates, maintains and documents system administration platforms; creates and maintains technical documentation and reference materials related to known system and/or network administration issues. *
Carries out cybersecurity functions such as administering firewalls, implementing, and maintaining security controls; performs security scans and periodic penetration testing; reports, documents, and respond to security incidents. *
Performs regular administrative functions such as creating and updating documentation, processes issues and requests within a ticket system; performs security event and information management (SEIM) and data center maintenance.*
Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves system administration performance issues; reviews, monitors, and analyzes network traffic; identifies and documents processes to achieve optimal performance and uptime; analyzes data to minimize network and system congestion and/or slowed/delayed performance. *
Provides technical assistance and advice related to technology solutions and additional training to staff; assists with development and deployment of software. *
Provides technical support of desktops and desktop software; installs, configures, upgrades, and coordinates escalation points to resolve file, email, and/or application related issues. *
Configures, troubleshoots, and resolves various network and/or workstation problems; performs complex troubleshooting on network hardware, software, and connectivity issues.*
Provides back up support to team members within network services and network administrators. *
Researches and recommends technology purchases to provide enhanced performance to the college’s system operations. *
Attends and participates in a variety of department, division, or college committee meetings, as requested.
Performs related duties that support the overall objective of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline; AND
Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience related to the essential responsibilities of the position;
OR

Associate Degree with major coursework in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline; AND
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience related to the essential responsibilities of the position;
Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Microsoft Azure Fundamentals
Microsoft 365 Fundamentals
CompTIA Network + and/or Security +
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

May be required to possess or demonstration an ability to obtain, a valid driver license, if driving is required as an essential responsibility of the position.
May be required to travel for various off-site meetings, trainings, conferences, workshops, and/or events in support of the overall objective of the position.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this classification, employees are regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time; talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, operate personal computers and other standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms; bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to file materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to distinguish basic shades and colors and the ability to adjust focus. Employees are frequently required to walk and stand and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment
The work environment described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this classification. Incumbents in this classification may encounter frequent interruptions by college personnel, students, and the public.
Employees work under typical office conditions, with constant interruptions; noise levels may vary depending on activities of the office, division, or department. The employee often performs work in offices and other locations throughout the District/college where the noise level is generally quiet. Some work is performed in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, basements, attics, pull boxes, on roofs, and under buildings; near moving mechanical equipment and heavy traffic; on uneven or slipper surfaces; employees may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, airborne dust and particles, extreme temperatures and humidity, biological hazards, fumes, and the risk of electrical shock; some work involves climbing ladders and working in precarious places.
