DutiesAs a Dentist, you will perform the following duties:
Use clinical skills in oral surgery including surgical extractions of erupted teeth, administering of anesthesia, monitoring vital signs, alveoloplasty, removal of impacted teeth, biopsies, and soft tissue surgery.Examine patients, utilizes diagnostic equipment as appropriate, interpreting results for diagnosis.Establish priority of care and performing necessary treatment based upon established diagnoses including follow-up care as indicated.Provide general dentistry services to a detainee population including: preventive modalities and patient oral health literacy education; pre-treatment health assessment with pertinent case history; with an emphasis on oral surgery.Prescribe and/or dispense appropriate medication to patients as indicated.Requirements Conditions of EmploymentYou must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.You must successfully pass a background investigation.You must successfully pass a drug screen.Males born after 12/31/59 must certify registration with Selective Service.Requirements by Closing Date: Unless otherwise noted, you must meet all requirements by the closing date of the announcement.Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
The Dentist occupation has four (4) specific requirements listed below (A, B, C, and D) which apply to all positions. Transcripts and Licenses are required at the time of application. (You Must Provide a Copy)
A. Successfully completed a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (You Must Provide a Copy)
B. Successfully passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. C. You must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.
D. Be able to distinguish shades of color.FOR GS-14: Applicant must demonstrate they possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent public or private sector experience performing the following duties:
Performing oral surgery of various types;Working with the infection control process;Managing dental programs with minimal assistance; andProviding general dentistry services.Additional Requirements:BLS: Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a current Basic Life Support (BLS), Healthcare Provider certification, for credentialing clearance.Language Proficiency: You must be able to understand, speak, read, and write English fluently. Bilingual communication capability is preferred.On-Call: You must be willing to participate in the emergency on-call process, to include duty hours, after duty hours, designated holidays or other times as directed.Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
