Cardiac Telemetry nurses assess acute changes in patients. Our Cardiac Telemetry unit is unique in that our nurses take care of patients recovering from open heart surgeries, heart catheterization with stent placement, ablations, pace maker/AICD placement, cardiovascular surgeries and we are a comprehensive stoke/stemi facility.
Two separate 29-bed units, specializing in the care of cardiac patients
Types of patients we care for
Electrophysiology (pacemaker, ablation)
Structural heart (mitral clip, TAVR, TMVR, watchmen, valve angioplasty)
Post operative day one open heart surgery patients
Research Medical Center is one of the few hospitals that care for patients receiving the TAVR procedure outside of the ICU
Close collaboration with cardiology providers including physician-led education regarding care of cardiac patients to ensure we are providing the best evidenced-based care
High-level nursing care for a variety of patients requiring critical care outside of the ICU
Working in the cardiac progressive care units is a great way to build your critical thinking and skills. Nurses from our departments grow into areas such as ICU, cardiac cath lab, EP lab, or leadership. We work collaboratively with other departments in the facility to ease any transition you are interested in making. No matter what your goal is, your leader will take an active approach to help you achieve it.
What sets Research Medical Center apart
~ We provide care to patients from a 150-mile region surrounding Kansas City.
~Level 1 Trauma Center, Grossman Burn Center, and Transplant Institute
~Under the general supervision of the unit’s director or designee the Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) assumes responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions in the unit on his/her designated shifts.
In collaboration with other members of the management team, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in unit.
Assumes responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions during the designated shift.
Functions as a resource person for staff member and assists in necessary education of individual members of the nursing staff.
Assumes responsibility for the overall quality of nursing care provided when s/he is on duty.
Makes decisions regarding activities with these areas based on Administrative Operational Standards, Nursing Administrative Standards, Human Resource Standards, and Standards of Care for the unit, in collaboration with other members of the management team.
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Two (2) years of clinical practice in the clinical specialty of his/her unit and leadership/ management experience is preferred.
