Summary

This position performs skilled electrical/instrumentation installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work related to specialized electrical equipment up to 15kv and instrumentation equipment used to operate and monitor the City's water and wastewater systems. They are required to work from blueprints and schematics, plan and assign work for themselves and others, ensure that work specifications comply with all applicable codes, estimate, and purchase necessary materials, and oversee the correct installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment following established trade methods and procedures. This position will either take place at the plant located at Rowlett Creek or Duck Creek.

Salary: $19.90 - $28.14 Depending on qualifications and experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Install, maintain, and repair various electrical equipment including pumping panels, MCC switchgear, low and medium voltage motor controllers, circuit breakers, transformers, variable frequency drives, level transmitters, flow meters, data radios, generators, electric valve actuators, and cathodic protection controls.
  • Perform system design, installation, remote programming and diagnostics, and repairs for computer-controlled automation systems, electrical controls, multi-platform programmable logic controllers (PLC), and human machine interface (HMI) systems.
  • Maintain, perform system diagnostics, and repair supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, remote terminal unit (RTU) data communication systems, and fiber optic interface components.
  • Perform inspections, installation, calibration, and certification of water quality monitoring instrumentation for compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), as well as process control instrumentation such as flow, level, pressure, loss of head, and air metering devices.
  • Interpret and understand electrical and electronic system designs, plans, specifications, multi-page wiring schematics, and basic one-line diagrams.
  • Assist in the startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting of process control systems including correcting problems with communications, field process variables, or design engineering.
  • Train and supervise apprentices.
  • Work outside normal working hours as needed to correct any problems that arise within the wastewater plants.
  • This includes responding to emergency call-ins, which can occur any time, day, or night.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments, contractors, and regulatory agencies to coordinate activities, exchange information, and resolve problems.
  • Ensure all work complies with NEC, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable standards and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma and a Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Valid Texas Master Electrician license or hold a valid license from another state and be willing to obtain a Texas license within six (6) months.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:
  • TCEQ Class A or B Wastewater license
  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology, or related area.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of motor maintenance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering prints and specifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of work order scheduling application
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations.
  • Skill with Microsoft Office computer applications
  • Advanced skill with SCADA control system logic
  • Handle stress effectively without it interfering with performance.
  • Conflict resolution.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license
  • Valid Texas Master Electrician license or hold a valid license from another state and be willing to obtain a Texas license within six (6) months.


Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Frequent work performed outside or with exposure to risk including exposure to hazardous chemicals, raw sewage, communicable diseases, loud or constant noise, electricity, humidity, wetness, extreme temperatures, heights, odors, gases, mists, confined spaces, climbing ladders, cramped spaces, and inherent construction related hazards. Position is subject to 24-hour call out, 365 days per year.
