Senior Mechanical Engineer - Wilmington, North Carolina

DISHER is partnering with a nuclear fuel producer in Wilmington, NC to fill their Senior Mechanical Engineer Engineer position. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with other key stakeholders, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead and collaborate with engineering staff to develop design specifications, conceptualize design concepts based on project needs, work with design engineers to complete detailed designs, complete document design calculations, provide procurement support, and generate other drawings and design documentation as needed to support manufacturing, assembly, and testing of laser enrichment systems.

What you will get to do:
    • Interface with business project managers, technical project engineers, various engineering disciplines, and other business functions.
    • Conceptualize and develop new products that support project objectives.
    • Review existing products and propose design modifications to improve functionality.
    • Complete and verify design calculations and detailed designs with engineers.
    • Review and verify detailed drawings and specifications for manufacturing.
    • Provide well-documented engineering analyses to ensure design adequacy.
    • Oversee design reviews, production readiness reviews, and address emergent issues.
    • Collaborate with sourcing and manufacturing to support cost reduction activities.
    • Design and execute test procedures to validate component and assembly adequacy.
    • Develop procedures and work plans to improve engineering productivity and manage technical risks.

What will make you successful:
    • Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent DOD Top Secret
    • The required work location for this role is in Wilmington, NC (generous relocation assistance provided).
    • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering field (Advanced Degree preferred).
    • Nuclear Industry knowledge/experience preferred.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and ability to perform complex engineering analyses resulting in thorough and complete documentation.
    • Strong communication skills and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments.
    • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, vibration analysis, heat transfer, Finite Element Analysis, statistics, and drafting practices (including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and CAD).
    • Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative environment.
    • A self-starter willing to take initiative.
    • Experience working in classified and/or highly regulated environments preferred.
