Contractor, Sr. Principal, Embedded Software Engineer Location: Redwire Space, San Jose, CA. This 6‑month contractor position may be extended. Work is primarily on‑site with a hybrid schedule of four days in the office and one day remote. Compensation Base rate: $100.00 /hr – $125.00 /hr Summary We are seeking a Contractor – Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer to develop and deliver high‑reliability satellite solutions. You will work collaboratively with hardware, FPGA, and software teams, driving the entire development cycle from requirements to production. Responsibilities Collaborate with software, hardware, and FPGA engineers to design software solutions that meet system specifications. Conduct static and dynamic software analysis. Create and maintain software documentation, including requirements, design, and interface specifications. Design and implement embedded software and hardware solutions from requirements through production. Develop software test procedures and test suites for unit, system, and regression testing. Support integrated systems testing and sensor I/O data noise suppression. Participate in hardware‑software trade studies and system design reviews. Communicate status, issues, and risks to project teams and management. Follow internal design standards to ensure performance and reliability. Ideal Experience Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 15+ years of experience shipping embedded systems. Extensive experience (10+ years) in RF. Proficiency in embedded Linux or RTOS experience (FreeRTOS preferred). Strong toolchain knowledge – Gitflow, Atlassian suite, Jenkins automation. Deep understanding of operating‑system fundamentals: schedulers, network stack, file system, memory management. Experience with memory‑mapping, caching, DMA, and interrupts. High expertise in C and C++, with exposure to web, Ubuntu, RHEL, and .NET applications. US citizenship and eligibility for a security clearance. Willingness to travel as required. Desired Skills Deep familiarity with Yocto toolchain. Experience designing SoC/FPGA interfaces such as UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, CSI, Ethernet. Proponent of Agile development practices. Expertise in RTOS or embedded Linux device drivers and bootloaders. Experience in aerospace software system design. Excellent communication skills. Essential Hiring Criteria United States citizenship or lawful permanent residency. Eligibility to obtain a security clearance.
