OverviewDirector of Rutgers Center on Research in Pain and Pain Therapeutics (CRPPT) at Rutgers Brain Health Institute (BHI).We seek an accomplished scientist, at the Professor or Associate Professor level, to join the Rutgers Brain Health Institute (BHI) as Director of the new Rutgers Center on Research in Pain and Pain Therapeutics (CRPPT). The center director will develop a research program focused on mechanisms underlying pain with the goal of developing novel therapeutic approaches. The CRPPT will build collaborations among scientists with multidisciplinary expertise to identify novel therapeutic targets, assess treatment efficacy, and develop precision medicine approaches to diagnose and treat pain. As a component of the BHI and Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM), the CRPPT will include faculty across Rutgers schools and campuses with expertise in pain research and treatment, including the Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, RWJ Medical School (RWJMS), NJMS, Rutgers School of Nursing, Rutgers New Brunswick and Newark faculties in Arts and Sciences and Pharmacy, as well as affiliated U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in East Orange and Lyons, NJ and the Rutgers Cancer Institute. The Rutgers CRPPT will be the only comprehensive pain research center in NJ.ResponsibilitiesProvide visionary leadership for the CRPPT, coordinating research among a diverse group of faculty and institutions.Lead NIH-supported training programs and develop new research opportunities in pain research (from basic science to translational and population science).Foster collaborations across Rutgers schools and affiliated centers, leveraging core facilities and resources to advance pain research and clinical translation.Coordinate research activities, guide center development, and serve in a forward-facing role within Rutgers and the broader biomedical community.Oversee center operations, strategic planning, and external partnerships to accelerate translation of discoveries into clinical trials and patient care.QualificationsPhD, MD, DDS, or equivalent doctoral degree, with an active NIH or federally funded research program in pain research.Ability to lead a translational science program spanning basic science, clinical research, and population health.Strong leadership and communication skills to coordinate research and NIH-supported training among a diverse group of faculty.Clinician-scientists with expertise in pain research are particularly encouraged to apply.Experience with building collaborations, securing funding, and advancing a high-profile research program.What We OfferSubstantial resources to develop a world-class pain research center and to support the director’s own research activities.
