USPI Medical Park Tower Surgery Centeris seeking a motivated Pre-Admissions Testing RN to join our team. We have 5 OR rooms. We perform outpatient surgical procedures in General, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic, Urology. We are looking for a candidate to be available Monday-Friday, schedule subject to change based on surgical schedule and flow of the day. The candidate needs to be available for some early mornings and later evenings.

Position requires weekdays only -- no holidays, weekends, or call. Some later evenings required.

Job Description: The Pre-Admission Testing Nurse (PAT RN) may assume the following PAT responsibilities: contact (by way of telephone, text and email) all patients prior to surgery to assess medical and medication history, review for appropriate lab, x-ray, EKG orders to determine where and when these procedures are to completed and provide pre-admission teaching. The RN can expect to assess health history of adult patients, including the older adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients. The RN may send patients for laboratory testing or clearance prior to surgery as ordered/required. Preferably the PAT RN would be open to stepping in clinically, if needed, but not required. Other duties, as assigned by Clinical Director.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

* Plans and prepares for the pre-admission of the patient.
* Meets all required deadlines. Demonstrates discretionary ability in establishing priority.
* Delivers indirect and direct patient care according to established standards, taking into consideration the age and risk factors of the patient.
* Possess the knowledge and ability to use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of the patient.
* Uses nursing judgment in decision-making.
* Acts as a patient advocate in meeting his/her physical and psychological needs.
* Performs patient assessment and reassessment immediately upon admission and on a regular basis in accordance with standards of care with documentation of these assessments as a basis for planning each patient's care.
* Ensures that all nursing interventions and patients responses are communicated to responsible practitioners as indicated and that all components of the nursing process are documented in accordance with standards of practice.
* Integrates and coordinates care across settings and among disciplines.
* Implements physician's orders effectively and safely in accordance with standards of practice.
* Ability to recognize and intervene in stressful situations.
* Maintains BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications as applicable.
* Maintains or acquires skills on equipment necessary to complete required responsibilities.
* Documents all records according to established policies and procedures.
* Assesses information/documents on AdvantX, maintaining patient confidentiality.
* Assists with reviewing and updating policies and procedures.
* Performs effectively in stressful situations to fulfill position responsibilities.
* Provides teaching to patient/parent of child per level of understanding.
* Performs additional duties as needed by the department.

Required Skills:

Qualifications:

* Graduate of an approved school of nursing, BSN preferred.
* 2 years nursing experience preferred; perioperative setting preferred
* Currently hold an unrestricted licensed in Texas.
* BLS required upon hire; ACLS and PALS preferred.
* Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities.
* Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.
* General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for the perioperative setting.
* Professional communication required to be able to interact effectively with patients, their families and consulting medical professionals.
