Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Cabinet Shop) – Full Time Day Shift At Stony Brook Medicine, Maintenance Supervisors 1 are responsible for supervising, coordinating, and directing the activities of skilled, semi‑skilled, and unskilled trades personnel in maintenance, repair, rehabilitation, and construction activities. Responsibilities Supervise and plan work for maintenance crews, ensuring tasks are completed on schedule. Use carpentry trade tools, hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment, and standard measuring instruments. Examine blueprints to determine dimensions, material and labor requirements; order materials and supplies. Prepare rough sketches or plans from verbal or written instructions as needed. Assign staff to projects, provide verbal instructions, and work with blueprints or plans. Coordinate with supervisors from other trades, schedule work, and ensure schedule continuity. Observe and inspect ongoing and completed projects to ensure they meet specifications and schedules. Inspect work performed by outside contractors for conformance with project specifications. Maintain written records of work performed and account for labor and materials used. Prepare standard written evaluations of subordinates’ work performance. Develop relationships with suppliers for materials needed for fabrication deliverables. Assist with estimates for cabinet shop projects in partnership with PMO, delegating tasks for optimum department production. Hold responsibility for equipment and machinery maintenance and operations within the cabinet shop. Job Requirements Working knowledge of structural/maintenance/carpentry techniques. Working knowledge of carpentry trade mathematics. Working knowledge of supervision principles. Basic knowledge of practices and techniques of other supervised trades. Ability to read architectural blueprints and interpret building and furniture plans. Ability to plan, lay out, and complete varied carpentry work. Proficiency in using carpentry trade tools, machines, equipment, and materials. Ability to perform standard arithmetic computations for task sizing and cost estimation. Physical capability to perform required carpentry tasks. Ability to understand and execute written and verbal instructions. Ability to train and supervise others. Experience with solid surface fabrication and installation. Attend job‑site walkthroughs for scope understanding and coordination. Meet regularly with manager to review and coordinate cabinet shop production schedule. Qualifications Must meet the qualifications of a Trades Specialist (Carpenter) plus one year of trades experience. The Trades Specialist requirements include four years of full‑time carpentry experience under a skilled tradesperson, completion of a two‑year traineeship, or equivalent training/experience. Pre‑Employment Requirements Pre‑employment physical examination and medical clearance. Electronic reference check with at least three professional references. 4‑panel drug screen. Compliance with regulatory pre‑employment screenings. Provide any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
