Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Facilities Manager to oversee the maintenance and operations of our data center facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in facility management, particularly in data center environments, and be willing to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends. This role involves ensuring optimal operation of all facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, security, and WiFi, while managing inventory and equipment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Emergency Response: Address and resolve issues related to pipe breaks, electrical failures, and alarm systems in a timely manner.
  • Security Management: Install and maintain security camera systems and ensure overall facility security protocols are adhered to.
  • Network Management: Troubleshoot and resolve WiFi connectivity issues to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Inventory & Equipment Management: Oversee inventory management processes, including restocking supplies and managing equipment to ensure all resources are readily available.
  • Negotiation: Negotiate rates with vendors and service providers to optimize operational costs.
  • Facility Relocation: Facilitate the movement of equipment and resources within the data center, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Data Center Operations: Monitor and maintain the data center chiller and other critical systems, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Facility Inspections: Conduct regular morning and night sweeps of the facility to identify and address any maintenance needs or security concerns.
  • 24/7 Availability: Be on call to respond to urgent facility issues outside of regular business hours.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in facilities management, preferably in a data center environment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, particularly in relation to data center operations.
  • Experience with security systems and network infrastructure management.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends as needed.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Facilities Management Professional, Certified Facility Manager) are a plus.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to perform inspections and maintenance tasks in various environments.


How we’re different:

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.

We are a fully in-person team in Cupertino, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
