Job Description Summary PayPal’s Legal Department is seeking an experienced, creative, and collaborative attorney to join as Senior Legal Counsel. This attorney will lead commercial legal projects involving a range of vendors, with a focus on those providing technology, data, AI‑related services, and third‑party products integrated by the company. The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills, high value for client service, and experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams to achieve solutions. Strong commercial contracting experience is essential; interest or experience in AI and data contracting is highly desirable, but willingness and ability to learn in innovative areas are equally valued. Essential Responsibilities Lead complex projects of diverse scope, driving legal initiatives that support business growth and innovation. Participate in complex problem resolution, providing expert legal advice on high‑stakes issues and disputes. Provide expert legal advice and support, particularly in areas experiencing significant growth such as compliance, data privacy, and litigation support. Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, advising on the implementation of new legal technologies and automation tools. Manage legal risks and safeguard PayPal’s legal interests, developing comprehensive risk management frameworks. Represent PayPal in litigation and other legal proceedings, leading case strategies and ensuring effective representation. Expected Qualifications 8+ years relevant experience and a Juris Doctorate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Responsibilities and Preferred Qualifications Responsibilities Lead the drafting, negotiation, and management of complex vendor agreements, including software licensing, SaaS, data, AI services, and professional service contracts. Advise on privacy, data, intellectual property, and regulatory issues related to vendor relationships in a fast‑paced global environment and in collaboration with legal colleagues. Develop, streamline, and implement templates, workflows, and playbooks to enhance contracting efficiency and ensure compliance. Deliver practical, concise, and solution‑oriented legal advice while independently prioritizing competing deadlines and projects. Stay current on industry trends and regulatory developments impacting technology, data, and AI vendor agreements. Serve as a trusted resource on risk mitigation, contract structuring, and best practices for vendor management. Qualifications Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree with active state bar membership. At least five years of commercial contracting experience, either in‑house or at a law firm, with substantive involvement in technology and commercial agreements, including software licensing, SaaS, data, AI solutions, and professional services. Exceptional writing, negotiation, and communication skills, with an emphasis on collaborative problem‑solving and client service. Strong organizational skills and the proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and exercise sound business judgment in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrated experience with privacy, regulatory, and risk issues in technology transactions. Experience with AI‑ and data‑related contracts is preferred, but curiosity and a willingness to develop competency in new areas is equally valued.
