Join to apply for the Data Project Manager role at University of Washington. This position will support the Transportation Data Equity Initiative project sponsored by the USDOT program. The innovative data infrastructure project, with a broad partnership among state departments of transportation, transportation service providers, industry and community partners, seeks to enable mobility equity by creating an interoperable, shared data infrastructure to fill in gaps in current transportation data and ultimately provide travelers with information they can trust. Detailed, accurate data about pedestrian networks, travel environments (transit facilities, etc.) and on‑demand travel services is crucial for any trip planner, trip concierge, wayfinding, or exploratory mobile application, especially those serving people with disabilities, older adults, veterans, suburban and rural populations. The Data Project Manager will co‑lead and coordinate the technical work of complex, multi‑stakeholder projects within the Taskar Center’s Transportation Data Observatory. The role involves overseeing the technical execution of contracts and deliverables across software development, GIS tool creation, data standardization, and public‑facing dashboard design. It serves as the operational anchor for project teams, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, timelines, and community co‑design principles, and translates technical research and innovation into scalable, real‑world infrastructure improvements. Duties/Responsibilities Project Oversight: Co‑lead technology planning, execution, resource allocation and delivery of Observatory‑related projects, including software, GIS tools, and dashboard development. Stakeholder Coordination: Facilitate communication and alignment across internal teams, transit agencies, DOTs, and community partners. Contract Management: Manage scopes, timelines, budgets, and reporting for funded projects and interagency agreements. Standards Integration: Coordinate with data standards organizations to ensure compliance and interoperability. Risk & QA Management: Identify risks, oversee QA processes, and ensure deliverables meet technical and community standards. Reporting & Documentation: Prepare reports, dashboards, and documentation for funders, partners, and internal stakeholders. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, and at least 2 years of experience in technical project management. Desired Qualifications Experience leading interdisciplinary teams. Familiarity with usability testing and participatory design. Understanding of project evaluation frameworks, KPI’s and other evaluation techniques. Startup/founder experience or experience launching new initiatives. Knowledge of open data standards and civic technology ecosystems. PMP or Agile certification preferred but not required.
