Director of Food Service – Overland Park, KS About The Role We are looking for a dedicated Director of Food Service to lead our culinary operations at our senior living community. This position plays a key role in providing residents with nutritious, delicious, and beautifully presented meals in a warm and welcoming environment. The ideal candidate combines strong culinary skills with a passion for serving seniors, exceptional leadership, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and hospitality. Job Details Location: Overland Park, KS | Schedule: Full-time, M-F | Salary Range: $65,000–$72,000 | Reports to: Executive Director Key Responsibilities Oversee all kitchen and dining room operations, ensuring high‑quality meals and service for residents. Plan, develop, and modify menus based on residents’ preferences, nutritional needs, and dietary restrictions, in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Supervise, train, and schedule dining and kitchen staff to ensure efficient and compassionate service. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen and dining environment in compliance with sanitation and safety standards. Ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule, following menu specifications and resident expectations. Collaborate with the dining team to provide a positive, person‑centered dining experience. Manage food inventory, ordering, and costs within established budgetary guidelines. Keep accurate temperature logs and ensure proper food handling and storage procedures. Foster a culture of respect, teamwork, and excellence throughout the dining services department. Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the community. Qualifications Working knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations (Food Protection Management Certification required). Experience supervising kitchen and/or dining service staff. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs regularly and 50 lbs occasionally, and to stand for extended periods. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and online ordering systems (e.g., DSSI, Sysco). Commitment to promoting dignity, independence, and joy for senior residents. Education & Experience Safe Food Manager certification required. Minimum of 2 years of relevant culinary or food service management experience. Previous experience in a senior living, assisted living, healthcare, or hospitality environment preferred. Strong understanding of FDA and USDA regulations for food handling and preparation.
