Overview:

The Autonomous Specialist is responsible for operating and evaluating a self-driving vehicle in autonomous mode, including collecting data and providing feedback, and offering ride hail service to the general public. Pay Rate - $29.00 - $35.00

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain Transdev’s high standard of safety, inside and outside of the vehicle.
  2. Consistently demonstrate situational awareness, an understanding of the technology in his/her care, and a willingness to constantly adjust to changes in the environment.
  3. Communicate courteously with management, engineers, and the public.
  4. Operate/Drive in single and/or dual driving, five days a week; able to sit still for long periods of time.
  5. Respond quickly to changing and potentially high-pressure environments.
  6. Work mostly individually but also in small groups of 2-10 people.
  7. Operate a vehicle 6-8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
  8. Provide rides in the autonomous vehicle to the general public.
  9. Monitor multiple software systems with constant focus.
  10. Provide concise, clear, and accurate verbal and written feedback regarding the vehicle’s operations.
  11. Operate the vehicle on paved and rough surfaces in a closed course facility.
  12. Complete daily reports and document procedures and tests.
  13. Interact with the members of the public in a polite and professional manner, and assist in educating them on self-driving technology when necessary.
  14. Operate autonomous vehicles on both defined and undefined routes, including a variety of environmental conditions.
  15. Operate onboard data recording computers.
  16. Comfortable riding as a passenger in an autonomous vehicle, where the driver may have little control over the vehicle’s operations.
  17. Must be able to work assigned shifts.
  18. All other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Minimum of 3 years of experience driving on public roads. Additional experience is preferred.
  2. High School Diploma or GED required. Four-year college degree (preferred) in a related field like industrial or applied sciences.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  1. Ability to parallel park with minimal assistance.
  2. Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps (i.e. Gmail, Hangouts, Sheets, and Docs).
  3. Proficiency with using a touchscreen smartphone (Android preferred but not required).
  4. Good attention to detail and ability to quickly and concisely describe thoughts.
  5. Capable of responding quickly and simultaneously to multiple scenarios.
  6. Adapt quickly to new and developing technology.
  7. Cross-functional verbal and written communication and issue escalation.
  8. Must be able to multitask multiple technologies, including communications devices and vehicle status systems.
  9. Must be able to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, overnights and/or weekends, as well as travel for up to one month.
  10. Travel up to 20% of the time.
  11. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  12. Must be self-motivated and demonstrate good judgment in fast-paced, high-stress environments.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Occasional standing, walking, and long periods of sitting.
  2. Use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders.
  3. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  4. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
  5. Must use close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  6. Most work is accomplished outdoors in a vehicle.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  1. Must be 21 years old.
  2. Does not have more than 1 point on the driving record (California), or one non-major moving violation in the preceding three years.
  3. Has not had any driver’s license suspension or revocation based on driving or operating any vehicle under the influence of alcohol or any drug in the past 10 years.
  4. Must have and maintain a driving record that meets state AVT (Autonomous Vehicle Tester) and/or other applicable regulations and laws.
  5. All Transdev employees must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  6. Transdev reserves the right to perform ongoing background checks for all employees except in states where this is prohibited by state law.
  7. Ability to qualify for an Autonomous Vehicle Tester (AVT) license in states and positions where it’s required.
  8. If based in the United States, applicants must be eligible to work in the US without restrictions for any employer at any time as required by the USCIS.
