Distribution Supervisor

Overtime and some weekends will be required, as well as the ability to flex hours to cover for other supervisor vacations, etc.

Hours can range from 1:00pm-9:00pm and 6:00pm-3:00am.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments, and directly supervise the shipping and receiving department to ensure the accurate, cost effective and timely delivery of outbound freight.
  • Monitor inventory levels and perform inventory cycle counts, ensuring adequate supplies of finished product to improve fill rate and on-time shipping.
  • Conduct training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Coordinate interplant and intra-plant movement of inventory materials.
  • Assist with specifications for required material handling equipment, racking, and dock equipment.
  • Conduct shipment audits to meet or improve customer shipping expectations.
  • Assess staffing requirements and assign work, while monitoring performance goals.
  • Coordinate stock shortage shipments and rework of returned goods with Production Dept.
  • Keep management informed on general conditions and on matters of importance, which could impact quality, cost, safety or employee morale.
  • Provide safety and job skills training
  • Monitor safety issues throughout the warehouse.
  • Ensure the completion of all required records, paperwork, documents, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations. Ensure the maintenance of equipment and departmental housekeeping standards.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration or other related field preferred ( 5+ years of combined college education and work experience may be substituted for a degree)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a Transportation, Shipping or Customer service business environment
  • Must have 3 - 5 years prior management experience in distribution environment.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with the MS Office platform
  • Broad business knowledge of supply chain work-flow
  • Knowledge of distribution operating systems and business processes, SAP experience preferred
  • Demonstrated success leading in a union environment
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written including the ability to communicate with all levels of management.
