Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large‑scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast‑paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full‑stack as we continue to push technology forward. Google Beam is a true‑to‑life new communication technology that solves a fundamental human problem: we want to be together, even when we can’t. Powered by state‑of‑the‑art 3D imaging, spatial audio, and integration with leading video platforms, Beam allows users to feel like they are having real, face‑to‑face conversations across any distance. As part of the Beam Core Apps team, you aren't just building a video chat app; you are building the future of immersive connection. The quality and velocity of our engineering rely on observability. Our team exists to help discover and create new ways to advance our core products through exploration and the application of new technologies. We work to build new solutions that have the potential to transform how users interact with Google. Our goal is to drive innovation by developing new Google products and capabilities that deliver significant impact over longer timeframes. The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $141,000‑$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable telemetry infrastructure and client‑side instrumentation using C++ to capture product health and performance metrics. Collaborate with engineering peers, product managers, and user researchers through design and code reviews to ensure data accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to style guidelines. Build and optimise data visualization dashboards and pipelines that provide actionable insights into system reliability, latency, and user experience. Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analysing telemetry data to pinpoint sources of instability across hardware, network, or service operations. Contribute to documentation regarding data schemas and instrumentation guides, adapting content based on product updates to enable self‑service insights for the wider team.
