The CRI is also dedicated to research, education, and training in informatics. The Office provides informatics support services by working with UC researchers to conceive, plan, design, implement, deploy, operate, and support biomedical research data capture, management, integration, and analysis applications. The CRI is looking for individuals who will contribute their skills in a fast-paced, cutting-edge environment and will be leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to deliver innovative and exciting solutions for researchers.Job SummaryThe job works independently to perform a variety of activities relating to software support and/or development. Analyzes, designs, develops, debugs, and modifies computer code for end user applications, beta general releases, and production support. Guides development and implementation of applications, web pages, and user-interfaces using a variety of software applications, techniques, and tools. Solves complex problems in administration, maintenance, integration, and troubleshooting of code and application ecosystem currently in production.ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps Pipelines).Containerize services and manage infrastructure using Docker, Podman, or OpenShift.Standardize deployment processes and environments across multiple applications.Integrate with institutional IAM systems (e.g., Okta, Shibboleth) and data services.Collaborate with developers and platform engineers to improve deployment reliability and developer experience.Automate backups, logging, and monitoring for platform health and disaster recovery.Collaborate with the platform team to define and begin implementing our CI/CD and container orchestration strategy — laying the groundwork for secure, automated deployments.Document workflows, configurations, and deployment practices in support of HIPAA-aligned infrastructure.Designs new systems, features, and tools. Solves complex problems and identifies opportunities for technical improvement and performance optimization. Reviews and tests code to ensure appropriate standards are met.Utilizes technical knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, including public cloud offerings from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.Acts as a technical consultant and resource for faculty research, teaching, and/or administrative projects.Performs other related work as needed.Education:Minimum QualificationsMinimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.Work Experience:Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.Certifications:Preferred QualificationsExperience:5+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure automation.Experience in research, healthcare, or academic IT is a plus.Education:Bachelor’s and/or Master’s in a technical discipline such as Computer Science or Software Engineering.Technical Skills Or Knowledge:Deep knowledge of containerization, CI/CD, and system provisioning.Experience with Azure DevOps Pipelines or similar CI/CD platforms.Comfortable managing Linux and Windows servers in production environments.Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, or equivalents).Preferred CompetenciesStrong scripting skills (Bash, PowerShell, Python, etc.).Excellent collaboration and communication skills.Working ConditionsThis position can be remote or hybrid, with flexibility available by mutual agreement and in accordance with university policy.Application DocumentsResume (required)Cover letter (preferred)When applying, the document(s) MUST be uploaded via the My Experience page, in the section titled Application Documents of the application.Job FamilyInformation TechnologyRole ImpactIndividual ContributorScheduled Weekly Hours40Drug Test RequiredNoHealth Screen RequiredNoMotor Vehicle Record Inquiry RequiredNoPay Rate TypeSalaryFLSA StatusExemptPay Range$100,000.00 - $140,000.00The included pay rate or range represents the University’s good faith estimate of the possible compensation offer for this role at the time of posting.Benefits EligibleYesThe University of Chicago offers a wide range of benefits programs and resources for eligible employees, including health, retirement, and paid time off.
