Commercial Management Director

Compensation Base pay range: $181,580.00–$259,400.00 per year. The position is client billable for approximately 30 % of the successful candidate’s time. Primary Responsibilities Lead the Commercial Management Business Class by creating a cross‑group community and positioning HDR as an industry leader in project execution. Collaborate with Business Group, Market Sector, Business Class, Professional Services, and Operations leadership to align the practice with HDR’s Cross‑Sector construct. Support project teams to deliver projects successfully and drive key initiatives for commercial management. Act as a boundary spanner and information broker to pair expertise and resources with projects during pursuit and execution phases. Champion a quality culture and uphold HDR’s values, code of conduct, and professional standards. Additional Responsibilities Provide subject‑matter expertise to elevate the practice’s industry reputation. Develop and implement standard processes to improve commercial management elements and project performance. Collaborate to build a coordinated talent pool and right‑size the practice for commercial success. Lead technical development of Commercial Management professionals. Oversee creation and maintenance of technical practices, standards, and expectations. Communicate current and projected production needs and collaborate with Operations Leadership on staffing and expertise levels. Mentor and support Commercial Managers and staff across the business class. Champion professional development, production tools, and recognition of technical achievement. Advocate for professional development of staff and development of production tools, including best practices and automation tools. Act as a role model of HDR’s values and promote a culture of client service, teamwork, entrepreneurial attitude, and integrity. Perform other duties as needed. Preferred Qualifications Professional or engineering registration. Commercial management experience within the AEC industry. Experience on large, complex AEC projects, especially via alternative delivery methods (design‑build, construction manager / general contractor, PPP, etc.). Working knowledge of Project Management Information System software such as QuickBase for commercial management purposes. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Sciences, Architecture, Engineering or a closely related field. Minimum 15 years of experience in a related management role. Experience in managing and developing diverse teams. Ability to cooperate with company operations, technical directors and marketing managers on cross‑sector initiatives.
