A Day in the Life of a Planner I As a Planner, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team delivering multimodal transportation projects, with a focus on active transportation (bicycle, pedestrian, and micromobility). Our Seattle office serves the Puget Sound, Olympic, and Northwest regions, with current work for communities throughout Washington and opportunities to contribute to projects nationwide. Typical project work includes multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero, Safe Routes to School, Safety Action Plans, trails, greenways, wayfinding plans, Complete Streets, and streetscape plans. You will lead analysis, represent Toole Design in project and stakeholder meetings, and collaborate with planners, landscape architects, urban designers, and engineers. Your tasks may involve data analysis, production of maps, graphics, and presentations, community engagement, plan writing, and occasional field work. Salary We are targeting a salary range of $66,000—$78,000 for this position. Qualifications of a Planner I A bachelor's or master's degree (or additional work experience) in urban planning or a related field At least 1+ year of experience Proficiency using Excel for data and demographic analysis; experience with ArcGIS and/or QGIS and creating webmaps Strong writing skills Experience in graphic production in Adobe Creative Suite, including data visualization, graphic design, and document layout Strong cultural competency with people from backgrounds different than your own It Would Be a Plus If You Have Prior planning experience Prior consulting experience, even as an intern Fluency in Spanish Experience with bicycle and pedestrian projects Experience conducting public outreach and engagement You'll Be Great Here If You are excited about transforming transportation networks and creating healthy and resilient communities You enjoy collaborating across disciplines to do great work for clients You know how to get the message across, whether it's written, verbal, or graphic You're motivated to tackle new challenges and develop creative solutions You thrive on engaging communities in the public outreach process You can build relationships, bring enthusiasm to exciting projects, and are detail‑oriented with strong problem‑solving skills Work Schedule for a Planner I This full‑time position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. Employees receive flexibility and the necessary equipment to work from home up to two days per week. The Seattle office is conveniently located in the heart of Seattle's Business District, within walking or biking distance of the Pike Place Market, Seattle Art Museum, Central Public Library, and Waterfront.
