Overview
NV5 is a provider of engineering and consulting services to public and private sector clients, delivering solutions through six business verticals: Testing, Inspection & Consulting; Infrastructure; Utility Services; Environmental Health Sciences; Buildings & Program Management; and Geospatial Technology. With offices nationwide and abroad, NV5 helps clients plan, design, build, test, certify, and operate projects that improve the communities where we live and work.
As engineers, architects, construction/program managers, environmental professionals and beyond, we play a significant role in shaping our communities through the services we provide. We are looking for passionate, driven individuals to join our team focused on Delivering Solutions and Improving Lives.
Under the supervision and direction of the civil and electric design leadership team, the Civil Designer I develops a set of fundamental skills essential for utility distribution design. They will build on their existing strengths in communication, organization, and creativity in conjunction with learning utility standards to prepare construction drawings and other documents to design portions of projects as assigned.
Designers are part of project teams working on various projects such as power line undergrounding and overhead system hardening to prevent fire in high fire threat districts and other distribution line projects. With guidance from their lead, Designers carry a full workload of multiple project assignments and are expected to prioritize work tasks to achieve submittals on time and on budget. NV5 may hire applicants through a third party agency in filling this position. Employment through the agency may be for up to one year, at which point the employee can extend through the agency or convert to direct NV5 employment.
Responsibilities
Our Civil Designers are goal-oriented who support our Power Delivery clients. They contribute to teams in the delivery of preparation of site plans and engineering studies for public and private development projects. * Perform engineering calculations and complete other supplemental design documents
* Prepare deliverables in a professional and organized manner
* Balance a full project workload with aggressive deadlines and fixed budgets
* Manage and maintain design records and files
* Gain familiarity with construction standards in order to best meet client and NV5's expectations
* Prepare drawings of the projects designed accurately and in conformance with the applicable standards and regulations, and review all work for completeness before submitting for engineering review
* Professionally represent NV5 in internal and external client meetings
* Perform field walks, document existing conditions, and/or recommend design solutions
* Minimal travel to client sites as needed (expected to be no more than 30% of time)
* Build a working knowledge of electric/gas utility safe work practices and as appropriate for distribution roles, demonstrate knowledge by working in and around underground electrical vaults with a utility-authorized Qualified Worker
* Work under the direction of the design management team with the expectation of progressing toward Designer II and above
* Interpretation of field survey data
* Manage design/drafting staff as lead engineer on project tasks.
* Responsible for quality of designs and validating that designs are in compliance with both internal and client QA/QC requirements.
* Ensure customer documentation (e.g. specifications, standards, procedures) are maintained for customer satisfaction and internal auditing.
* Train and mentor young professionals.
* Coordinate all design work with other team disciplines.
Qualifications
