Department: Brockton Site - CSS

Schedule: Per Diem

Position Summary

Under supervision, the Recovery LPN will provide clinical and administrative support in the BMC Brockton Behavioral Health Clinical Stabilization Services (CSS) unit under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, CSS Program Director and Patient Care Director/ACNO. The Recovery LPN will facilitate patient access to recovery-oriented SUD treatment, resources and community recovery groups with an emphasis on medication administration and evaluation. The LPN should possess a thorough understanding of addiction associated co-morbidities to better tailor clinical evaluation and care. br>
Essential Responsibilities / Duties

  • Engage patients in a residential treatment setting
  • Assists with providing patient care: record vital signs; discuss and document chief health concerns.
  • Perform and record specialized testing included but not limited to EKGs, urine HCG, and urine drug screening.
  • Maintain quality control testing of point-of-care lab equipment.
  • Perform nursing type duties specific to the department. For example, may apply dressings, and other wound care as directed.
  • Triage sick complaints from residential patients. li>
  • In collaboration with the behavioral health counselor, assist patients in the development and implementation of a recovery plan, adults struggling with SUD, MH or Dual Diagnoses;
  • Use language that conveys caring and is non-judgmental and utilize motivational enhancement techniques and motivational interviewing that helps encourage patients to identify and prioritize their personal needs;
  • Documents patient encounters, resource development efforts, and other interventions for each patient, including date, time, and signature in the electronic medical record.
  • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights and privacy
  • Utilizes hospital’s policies and standards as the basis for decision making and to support the hospital’s mission and goals.
    Education

    JOB DESCRIPTION CHARACTERISTICS

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • LPN diploma for accredited institution

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required

    • Current license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
    • CPR & BLS/First Aid certified upon hire

    Experience

    • Previous experience working with substance abuse patient populations preferred.
    • Preferred proficiency in Epic EMR

    Knowledge And Skills

    • Knowledge of community, social, and health resources, particularly substance use-related resources.
    • Expertise in establishing working relationships with patients, their family, professionals, and the community, including the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary health care team.
    • Computer competency, inclusive of the ability to access and enter data.
    • Verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to facilitate interactions with members of the health care team, patients, and their families.
    • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served, is preferred.
    • Sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, gender, and sexual orientation diversity; br>
