Job Summary
Provideleadership, direct and develop an effective team of custodial personnel in thecare, cleaning, and general maintenance of the buildings and equipment that areassigned, ensuring the completion of all assigned tasks including football,baseball, work orders, supply orders, etc..

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs manual cleaningof the assigned building(s). Uses proper methods and materials in cleaningand care for the building area and equipment, participates in the care,cleaning, and general housekeeping of the buildings that are assigned,completing all tasks including football, baseball, work orders, etc. as assigned.
  2. Provides leadership andinstruction to small groups of custodians by leading or directingcustodial activities during scheduled work periods (including weekends),or when performing special cleaning projects, such as Football,Basketball, Baseball, and other events that are assigned (per work orders)by the supervisor.
  3. Makes work assignments inaccordance with predetermined schedules, reviews the work of employees, assistsin training of new personnel, assists in transport of custodians to workassignments, makes supply orders and deliveries, and completes labortracking records.
  4. Must be able to showknowledge of and train employees on the following types of equipment: commercialvacuum cleaners (uprights and backpack vacuums), wet/dry vac, backpackblower, auto scrubbers, pressure washer, shower machine, and carpetmachines.
  5. Conducts inspection ofbuildings and grounds in assigned areas.Works with employees to ensure that assigned buildings work ordersand other complaints from their buildings are completed in a timelymanner. Ensures that the custodians have the proper materials and suppliesin the buildings to do the jobs effectively.Works with staff under him/her to makechanges in their Cleaning Zone to ensure that the buildings are servicedin a timely manner to department standards.
  6. Responds to emergencysituations during and after hours. Emergency situations mayinclude; property damage, personal injury, water leaks, flooding,overflowing restroom fixtures, broken window or door glass, andaccidents resulting in the appearance of bodily fluids (blood, vomitwaste, and urine).
  7. Serves as a member of thePhysical Plant Essential Personnel and as directed by the Physical Plantparticipates in pre-emergency preparations and post emergency recoveryefforts.
  8. Additional duties asassigned by Custodial Leadership.


Minimum Qualifications

Oneyear certificate from college or technical school; or 3 years of relatedexperience in a higher education setting or commercial cleaning environment; orequivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations, safety requirements and a knowledge of basic first aid.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Skill in managing ones' own time and the time of others while monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Skill in the operation of office equipment including, but not limited to, multiline telephone, typewriter, calculator, multi-function printer/copy/scan/fax machine and computer as well as computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and the ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Skill in material resources management through obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.
  • Ability to obtain a driver's license prior to employment.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
